Had a Glock 40 but I didn't like it as a CCW so I bought a Ruger Sr9c. Trigger pull is butter, loaded with safety features, it's compact, 10 and 17 round mags, and I use Remington golden saber JHP as my ammo. For now, it's also my home defense weapon, but I'm looking to get a Mossberg 500 in the near future. I've got a couple other pieces too, but this one is my baby atm...

Ruger has definitely improved their status within the last few years. And yeah, they do look dope too.

The prettiest are the 1911's though. I'll get my hands on one soon enough.

I know you can have a gun in your home; I'm pretty sure your car is considered property and you're allowed to carry there as well. Carrying in public varies from state to state. In ga, you can carry anywhere with a carrier's permit (which I have). I have a few guns but I'd recommend a normal sized (as opposed to the compact) 9mil. I like ruger and s&w. Taurus are ok...just ok. I hate glocks but that's a personal preference. My next gun will be a kimber covert 2. That thing is just nice to look at.

Btw, I haven't heard "tone up" in a long time. Old school saying right there.
