the BPP cannot be classified as 'armed resistance'. they never condoned nor taught armed resistance. their whole reason for carrying guns was self defense. it was exercising an amendment right (as equal citizens) to bear arms and defend themselves against oppressive forces (in their cases the police). it wasnt 'hey lets shoot at whitey'. the same philosophy as malcom x. and in the communities they worked in, they did make a lot of difference...not takin anything away from the civil rights movement, b/c they got actual laws passed. but everybody that contributed to the struggle should be respected, it shouldnt be 'this did more than that'. armed resistance got the american revolution, the monarchy in france toppled, slavery in america repealed, and slave independence in haiti. so to say it never got anybody anywhere is untrue
