I never thought Drake's appeal was rooted in lyricism. I'm willing to bet his fanbase isn't too concerned either. I don't see much changing because honestly, I never saw him as a top tier lyricist. Sure, he's the biggest star, but so was MC Hammer. He's what would happen if Hammer had a nice pen. He's an artist by committee, and i'm fine with that, he's dope to me, but when it come to talkin about who spits the best, he'll never be in the discussion. You can't be an all time great with a catalog full of horrible albums. Think about this.... He's supposed to be the number one rapper, but someone who doesn't even want to be known for lyricism has a much better catalog than him.... his name is Young Jeezy, mixtapes and albums. Just take a second to ponder that. It's probably best to just lump him in there with beyonce, he's a good rapper that has help, and makes great music, but not a hip hop purist, he even said he'll never make a "rap" album. This doesn't move the needle for me, it won't change what I think about the nigga because I don't make it past radio with him. You also have to take a look where hip hop is right now, it's basically the rock music of this generation, and has taken the whole nation by storm, so it's become less about integrity of the art. He's a fuckin pop star, he can rhyme, but he really don't hold no weight. And I can't respect no walkin truffle anyway. I guess I just never held the guy to that standard. Ya'll niggas throwin that Jay quotin Big shit out there disgust me by the way, go find me a muthafuckin Jay song with a nigga spittin a reference track..... Don't worry I'll wait.
