The Younger Generation has No Classic LPs

I'm 30 years old. I grew up in 1990's west coast rap. Niggas don't understand the quality that hip hop needs to continue striving. Solo albums were just that, solo albums. Yea a few songs were features but features were at a minimum. An artist's album was a testament to his music. Nowadays there is no such thing as a solo album. Nowadays flooding the market with mixtapes diminishes the anticipation and quality of an album. Nowadays hip hop is full of gossip and being overly friendly with each other. The competition level is gone. Diss tracks used to be one of the main reasons fans looked forward to an album. Niggas used to be creative and original. Now everyone is a God Damn carbon copy.

I'm still waiting on the day for somebody to truly define what a classic album is because it seems like the definition of a classic album changes depending on what album your talking about when it comes to some of yall.

The Chronic was meant to be a showcase of Deathrow's talent, not a Dr Dre solo album

The 25 and younger crew be bumpin the West Coast Classics channel on GTAV when the DJ dissin yalls generation or nah?

cuz its about mixtapes and punchlines and gimmicks as opposed to albums, concepts and authenticity. niggas be too worried about whats selling than what really moves them. older artists just went all the way in doing them and people caught up or passed by. thats just an indicator of the world.. a lot done changed in the past couple decades. people are different and of lesser quality IN GENERAL so of course ther artist class will reflect society at large... on another not.. more time got to pass to honestly ascertain what is classic or not out of this newer stuff...,its an overused and misused term like GOAT and "lost"

Kendrick Lemar GKMC is a classic and I mean classic on some golden era 90s ish.

it's a good album, no doubt, it ain't no classic.

its immature, pretentious and pseudo as fuck tho.... kenny is nice but that shit really displayed his immaturity... think he regressed from section 80 in tone and content but took a step up in overall presentation... he coulda executed that concept waaaay better tho...

Well imo it is but what is it about gkmc that keeps it from being a classic in your opinion.

Is classic really subjective in Hip Hop tho? If you look back, there are certain albums that you can't make a strong argument against in terms of their distinct status.. Albums like Illmatic, Paid in Full, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, The Chronic etc. Only nitpicking lames try to discredit them.

I agree with GKMC being the closest of the new generation.

i know that lol... he tried to detail moments and "lessons" i.e. the growth..there was no growth...that concept was an empty shell but not carried all the way thru and cohesive like "sex packets" or the kirk jones piece sticky did... this current generation is just starved for good creative shit in general so he filled that void.. if creativity was an industry standard like it used to be then no way in hell would people be calling GKMC a classic...

yes, everybody dont like the same things, im not calling any album classic just cuz a bunch of writers/fans did in the 90's unless i actually think its classic to my ears, thats just me tho

In terms of the growth, you never know: he may go like Janelle Monae and continue the concept on his next album? But devil's advocate, if the album is a moment in time piece, why would it need to show growth if that wasn't the subject's state?

Anyhow for my money, GKMC, Below the Heaven's, and Kanye's first are classics.

Also, stripped down versions of Big Krit's and J Cole's early mixtapes released as CDs would've have been also. But that's what ifs.

I dig the storytelling in the album. I dig his lyrics. But to me the album doesn't flow properly. He seems out of place for Compton, as weird as that sounds, the album is like a nerdy nigga telling street tales he seen. And I can dig that, he's being him. but it just seems out of place
