Both are good, but I'll go with the Wire since I lived in MD for 8 years and been to B-more,

The show depicted the streets of B-More really good, got niggas talking about it

I didnt even bother to read my fellow IC memebers opinions, because simply I just got into the wire series an watched a couple soprano eps ... BUT THE WIRE HANDS DOWN.

The wire relates to me. Fuck the mob.

Sorry bro, then your opinion is the only one that needs to be discarded coz....its un-educated.

I own all The Sopranos and all of The Wire but I aint watched the final season of The Wire yet, so i'll wait till I finished it all before I pass judgement.

No disrespect to the sopranos, a very good show in its own right, but the Wire shits on it; it is simply on a different level. It is gonna be hard to beat as a TV show because of what it did.
No show has painted so effectively and honestly the depth of streetlife and the impact of the outside world on that world and covered so many aspects- the street politics, the police politics, the government politics, the education system, the media politics. I'm from the Bronx and so I can relate to B-More depicted on a level. It managed to do all this without being preachy- because it simply shows the subtleties; how it alll is connected; all grey areas- not black and white; all heros/villians. Well written, acted and directed. The Wire is like all those Nas sociopolitic record combined with the power of the visuals. Folks arguing who the best character is. No show has that much impact- In the UK, the police are using the Wire to tackle gang/black crime. No TV show has had me this addicted since the first two 24s and the X-Files. The Wire is Simply the best and realest TV drama show ever. MAYBE THE BEST TV SHOW EVER!

Not even Close. The Sopranos was only A Great show during the first two seasons. After that it was pretty up in down until season 6 which just sucked. The wire was damn near perfect for 4 seasons and was just really good in seaosn 5. As groundbreaking as it was, The Sopranos still revolved around one character and branched out from there. If the Tony story wasn't working then the show wasn't working. On the wire there was no Main character, so even if one story fell flat there were 3 or 4 others that were still great.
