I regret that I agree with you on this one. If we were to change our current system we would be simply replacing it with a new oligarchy. There would still be idiots and smart people and there would still be haves and have nots. Until our technology progresses and we can provide a standard of living that is equal for everyone( hypothetical star trek society) we will still be subject to our very own inherent nature. The new ruling class who are usually the smartest and most enlightened will divide and control the masses by religion,class,race, and gender all over again.

Human beings are a subservient race of creatures who need order to feel comforted. Very few posses qualities that'll enable them to become an "elite". This is why no matter what system the masses replace another with, there will still be the very few ruling and controlling over the majority. The few or elite will once again out of fear of an uprising will create artificial boundaries that keep the masses from uniting.
