You know what? I might have to buy some of this. Not all of it though. I would say the content on Proof's album is a little bit deeper than Jay-Z's catalogue. I'd also say Proof is indeed more emotional. Searching for Jerry Garcia was better than I expected it to be when I heard it and overall it was a very good album--a concept album no less.
I wouldn't say it's better than all Jay-Z's albums though. Also, Proof in no way was more charismatic than Jay-Z. He never stood out on D12's tracks and that voice of his kept him in the background. Jay-Z overall is more entertaining and a better rapper in the grand scheme of things. Proof deserves credit where credit is due, but criticism where criticism is due as well.
Proof's career was really messed up. He was lost in the shuffle on a lot of D12 tracks due to Eminem and Bizarre. I know he likes to joke but him dressing up in that clown suit in the Purple Hills video wasn't a good look. That and all the sillyness in a lot of D12's rhymes caused him not to be taken seriously. Searching For Jerry Garcia was a really underrated and overlooked album. RIP Proof and screw all the haters who come in here and add nothing intelligent to the conversation.
