The only thing that it proves is that this climate of Hip Hop fans care more about first week sales in regard to their favorite artist vs. the first week sales of Hip Hop in it's "big boom period"? The fact that Jay Z sold 5 million copies of Vol. 2 without selling a milli in the first week speaks volumes (no pun) for rap sales than vs. rap sales now. If Wayne had dropped Carter 3 before 2005, him selling a 1 million copies the first week, but topping out at 3.5 million overall would've been considered a flop of epic proportions.
In today's climate in terms of C3 vs. BP3, it just means that Wayne is more popular than Jay Z. I think this only applies domestically though.
