Rakim should be in more people's top 10 GOAT. There are not a few sources that put him near the top, period.

One poster has repeated "quality over quantity" and that's right on the mark - Rakim created things, changed things, and is widely recognized for taking hip hop lyricism to the next level.

One of the problems with this type of question ("who's the greatest of all time") in any area (sports, music, whatever) is that the current players get more weight than the greats from the past because people vote for whom they like "now" as opposed to using some more quantifiable measure of greatness.

It's humorous to me to hear anyone start discussing the greatest running backs of all time and not mention Gayle Sayers. History has to be taken into account and, by anyone's standard, Rakim is easily among the greatest, ever.
