It's high as fuck to live in Chicago too. And it depends on where you live, in Hyde Park a studio apartmet will run you 900 bucks. And don't talk about the N Side or downtown, shit's a fucking joke. The shittier the neighborhood the lower the rent.

The cost of living is too high in LA as well. Even if your willing to settle for some hood as shit.

Gotta homegirl(Cali native) in BK who stay in a shoebox but she loves NY.

I'd say maybe for about 10% of its inhabitants

But a large majority of NYC residents are the working poor, just trying to make it to the next check.

If you're there trying to excel in business, the arts or something of that nature, it makes sense to endure the struggle

But if you're a custodian or a grocery store cashier, rent and sales tax (a $6 pack of cigs is like 12 bucks up there) the cost of living is eating you alive.

real shit, i never got why people have bullshit jobs and live in places like new york, l.a., london, whatever. it's not only like they cant afford a nice place to live or a car, they are also in a real low position in their city. it makes it even affects their private life, it's hard for them to find a decent girl cause they considered losers in a place like this...

its the same shit in the boston area, i dont have it in me to pay that much for rent or a mrtgage, i could afford it but i live an expensive lifestyle and i dont want to change that, plus its almost time for a new car and im not going cheap, me and a friend of mine are gonna get a 3 family hopefully in the next couple months, gonna rent out two floors and one floor is mine, hes cool with just being part owner which works for me because i dont want a roomate ever again unless its mandatory

I endorse this. I left NY in 2005 for North Carolina. I remember when wifey and I were scouting areas to live, in Raleigh and Charlotte, and we took a look at some apartments, and we just had the look of http://gifsforum.com/images/gif/happy/grand/drake_smilling_gif.gif at the rents.

I still miss some aspects of the city, like our favorite hangouts and restaurants, but not enough to want to deal with the day to day hassles of living there. After we moved here it was so relaxed it was crazy. I wasn't worrying about some cop putting phantom tickets on my whip that would lead to my car being towed later in the middle of the night, I wasn't worrying about having to deal with two feet of ice that never move in the middle of the winter, or dealing with inconsiderate neighbors. It's true, you gotta hustle just to keep your head above water in NYC.

The worse part is that New York isn't even what it used to be. This place was OFF THE HOOK back in the days. It doesn't have the flavor it used to have. It's like a bunch of rich, corny people moved here and took over, or something. It's turning into one big shopping mall, with the same stores you see taking over every other city.

Back in the day, you had to worry about a crackhead robbing you - $10 or $20 here and there. But at least you still had enough money left to keep a roof over your head and what not.

These days, rich motherfuckers are robbing us blind, legally, every day - out of house and home.
