I would say what separates the artists from the rappers is the fact that an artist is more experimental with what they do as opposed to just trying to make radio friendly hits. With that being said I think Andre 3000, Ice Cube, Nas and Zro fall into the artist category. I seriously think they don't care if the masses accept their music. Its not necessary to relate to art. you just have to appreciate the expression of it. Music is an art just like a painting or a sculpture or a play.
