I honestly really do think it's about how well versed someone is with American politics, white supremacy, and class inequality when you arrive here.

If you come into this country thinking that America is the land of opportunity and that pulling yourself up by your bootstraps bullshit propaganda is actually real, then you'd probably be inclined to think that what Blacks experience is their own fault.

Fortunately, my experience with Africans and Caribbeans have been with those who think otherwise or are second generation kids who don't give a shit.

yeah second gen don't think like that, we're all assimilated basically. but there is friction between the groups like Haitians vs AA in Boston and Florida, Africans vs AA....lol my parents got stories for days, you even have people saying "Oh Haitians aren't black they're French" or "Jamaicans aren't really black and can't speak English" "Them AFrican niggas ain't black"

but i wouldn't say the "land of opportunity" thing is bullshit because my family did it and many others i know have as well. African immigrants and Caribbean-Americans have higher educational and median household income rates than AAs

The land of opportunity thing is bullshit imo--class inequality and racial inequality still prevents Black folks from having the same opportunities as everyone else. It also depends on networks and access to resources in order to make it, which many poor Black folks don't have.

No, there aren't a lot of West Indians here--but there are a lot of Africans here--Nigerians, Ghanaians, and some Ethiopians. But there isn't really a lot of friction, at least, not that I'm aware of.

I'm assuming most people in Chicago really don't give a fuck, since African immigrant kids chill with AAs frequently here and nobody trips because it's trivial to do so.

the other side of the argument is that these immigrants don't have networks or resources either
