I wouldn't say they are sticking their necks out considering only last year they threw out the US ambassador. So regardless of Assange, relations with western countries are already (slightly) strained.
Ecuador mainly exports oil and other food commodities. People need oil and food so I don't think they would have taken a decision to support Assange if they felt they were seriously putting their economy at risk. Trade agreements with Europe/USA are still in place at present.
Why do you think he will have his day in court? Which court? Considering he was only wanted for questioning in Sweden. I am aware he has broken his bail agreement so he's wanted by the British court but I don't think you're referring to that.
