The Official Wale "Ambition" Album Discussion Thread

Finally got through my listen yesterday. I think it's a really good album. I'm one of the few people OD enough to use the song rating system on their iPod's but I can only remember like 3 5 star songs (Miami Lights, Slight Work, Ambition), lots of 4s and some duds. I've only listened to it through once so I'll have to listen to it again before comparing it to AD, because I REALLY liked AD.

It wasn't half what niggas was hyping it up to be, though everybody calls their shit classic nowadays. But better than I thought it would be.

That shit just goes tooooooooo hard.

Wale aint been able to hardly celebrate before some Cracker-blogger wrote a 12 page article trying to discredit him saying he dosent know who he wants to be as an artist.

They cant stop the movement, "The Resistance" is too strong.

Yea bruh I'm reading some of these reviews and most these shits is bogus as hell. I think it was the djbooth review I read last night dude was was downing the album because he thought songs like Chain Music were too "materialistic" or some nonsense. I'm like did u even listen to it??? Silly crackas gon follow......

U notice how most of em one make sure that u know they were fans before Ambition, naming mixtapes and Attention Deficit like they really supported that or paid any attention to those projects. I tell u man its really hard to find credible reviews on hiphop albums these days....

Take off :

1. Focused
2. Sabotage
3. White Linen
4. Slight Work

Replace with ...

1. Barry Sanders
2. Pick Six
3. Underdog
And possibly...
4. Passive Aggress-her

And you would have a seriously dope record .... Not to say it's wack album but when I see what it could have been it leaves a bit to be desired ... That shit from like track 6-9 just killed the momentum the record built with the first few tracks ... Gotta stop leaving the dopest shit on mixtapes .... But s/o to wale word around town is he went and "tripled up them uuuuunits" so that's a good look ...but this album could have been more I give it a 3-3.25/5

My sentiments of the album:

Well I've been a fan of Wale since like 07 so I'm not one of the newly acquired fans. We used to go at it with eachother on twitter and shit, I kinda trolled him. I purchased Attention Deficit when it flopped first week and all that.

For this album... it's not bad. I see he tapped into the 16-30 year old female demographic and then his affiliation with Maybach Music has given him a "hood" crowd. It's undeniable that the whole "ambition/ambitious girl/poetry/no days off" shit is a marketing ploy that people eat up. That part of the game don't impress me. I guess that's why he's about to move 200k first week (I'm proud of him for that).. Ok.. Musically.... Wale will never be a great artist. He just doesn't have it in him. He is good though. The production on this joint is definitely a huge step up from the last effort. I would say this project is more cohesive. But he kinda took a step back in terms of substance and content. Most of the topics are pretty generic. Lyrically, he is about the same as he's always been. I can see why a lot of people wouldn't be a fan of his style. He doesn't have the greatest voice and his flow can be choppy and shit gets jumbled and hard to listen to. That's something I don't think is ever gonna change.

Overall it's a cool record though. I haven't read anyone else's opinion on the album other than they like it or whatever. It's not the greatest shit in the world and doesn't match all the hype I've seen. I give it a 3.5/5 or a 7/10.
