Gareth Evans is back with more action

If you follow Raid writer/director Gareth Evans on Twitter, you’ll know he’s been spending the last few months preparing to shoot the sequel to his hard-hitting (literally) breakout action thriller. Now he’s at work on The Raid 2 (or The Raid 2: Berandal, as it’s known in Indonesia) and some early imagery of the film, Evans and his star Iko Uwais, is online. Check out the gallery below via Collider.

So what can we expect from the sequel? Well, more bone-splitting, head-smashing and knee-crunching action to be sure, all wrapped in a plot that picks up right where the first film ends.

This time around, Uwais’ Rama goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.

“To all our fans thank you so much for your support. We can’t wait to come back and show you what we have been working on,” says Evans in a press release. “We’ll be there in 2014 with a film bigger, better and bloodier! Wish us luck.” That’s surely the only bad thing here: we’ll have to wait until next year to see it. Still, we can be patient. Are you finished yet, Gareth? Now?

Now?

...How about now?

Is the first one actually a good movie, or is it just a lot of great action and martial arts sequences?

gareth evans and iko uwasis can't do any wrong in my book... they killed the raid....i'm already expecting this one to be better

Teaser Poster For The Raid 2: Berandal

It's not over yet...

Regular readers will know of our deep, abiding affection for Gareth Evans’ crazy action hit The Raid. And with Evans now busy editing the sequel after a long shoot in Indonesia, it’s time for the marketing effort to ramp up. Evans has been talking on Twitter about preparing the teaser trailer for a likely launch next month and the first poster has arrived via Twitch.

The Raid 2: Berandal picks up the story where the first one left off and sweeps Rama (Iko Uwais) into a much broader world of corruption and violence as he infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate.

Julie Estelle, Alex Abbad, Yayan Ruhian, Mathias Muchus, Tio Pakusadewo, Marsha Timothy, Cecep Arif Rahman, Matsuda Ryuhei, Endo Kenichi and Kitamura Kazuki are all part of the cast for this one, which promises to up the action levels (yes, really) while still keeping one eye on the plot. “We have 17 action sequences in the film – so there’s going to be a lot fresh material unspoiled by any teaser or trailer we release,” Evans wrote of the film on Twitter.

For more from the director, take a listen to what he said when he appeared on Empire’s podcast a couple of weeks ago. The Raid 2: Berandal is aiming for a 2014 release, but whatever the date, we’re simply listing it as 'Not Soon Enough'.

Dope movie. Can't believe a white was involved in making it.

Wtf is Tony jaa doing with his life, where tf is that nigger-chink

Tony Jaa got married within the last few years, probably why he took a break from movies but he's back with "The Protector 2".

The first movie is called The Raid Redemption. Great that it's a sequel to this and check out Merentau, it's on Netflix or buy it at Wal-Mart for $5.
