songs like this (not saying it's on the level of 1 mic) still gets made but now they dont get play on the radio or bet/mtv, the biggest thing killing hip hop is the lack of balance. at least back then you had 1 mic then after that you heard ying yang twinz, then you heard common etc. now it's mostly the same type of songs getting spins, little to no balance.

Lets not forget that One Mic came on the heels of Jay-Z slaughtering so ppl had a microscope on Nas's music....

true that battle helped his career but i still don't think music like this would be as big as this was in 2011. not at all in fact

I remember Nas on 106 and Park to promote that Made You look video and all AJ was talking about was ONE MIC. before the album or video was released

This is a classic, and imo it is the perfect Hip-Hop song.

For those that don't know, One Mic has a sample of Feel It In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins. And, it also peaked at #43 on the Hot 100, and #14 on the Hip-Hop/R&B charts, and such success would seem damn near impossible in today's climate.

nas has alot of songs that are the perfect hip hop song for the time they were made. street dreams remix was it at one time too. and illmatic is widely considered the perfect hip hop album. pretty much the GOAT. bump lol
