The list is not bad at all unlike what everyone says, but the last three definitely didn't deserve inclusion ahead of Big Daddy Kane, Scarface and even LL Cool J. Otherwise not a bad list at all.

A public list is always going to include your personal favs, different regions and a female.

Nassir aint never made a song with L.L., or BDK that I can remember....Im just thought hed have KRS-One and Scarface instead of Wayne and Laryn Hill instead of LiL Kim!

Actually I think he has made a song with LL but I'm not sure when that happened. or maybe I'm just thinking of Alkaholiks "Likwidation" album which features a couple of skit with them in it.

But he should have definitely had Scarface over Lil Wayne or Ross specially after "Favor for a Favor", "In Between Us" and "Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It remix". Well, at least he had Cube.

Of course he had Cube, you cant be a rapper with any type of cultural awareness and knowledge of Hiphop history without adding Cube.

i agree on it being a safe list, soley on the fact that its missing eminem.......

Nas has never shown any desire to be on a track with Emenim and even tho' its the politically correct thing to do to add Emenim to a list it gets boring and corny.

You have a better chance of seeing Lupe, Jay Elec', Common or Jadakiss on a Nas list before you see Emenims name.

Nas Names His Top 10 Hip-Hop Lyricists

November 29, 2010 4:38 p.m. by Andrew Martin

Apparently the most recent issue of Rolling Stone features 50 artists providing themed playlists throughout the magazine's pages. And for his list, Nas chose to name his top 10 hip-hop lyricists along with a song from each to explain their placement. It's kind of a head-scratcher at times, especially Lil Kim and Rick Ross being on the list at all as well as his choice for a Jay-Z track. But I have to give Nas credit for having Kool G Rap all the way at number three. Too many people, from rappers to critics, have forgotten both G Rap's skills and his influence. Anyway, here's Nas's list:

1. "My Downfall" - Notorious B.I.G., 1997

-The lyrics are about how he's acing the shadows of death, despite all of his success, and he's giving it to you in a way that makes it seem so real.

2. "If My Homie Calls" - 2pac, 1991

-He's just saying to his boys that he's going to be a friend no matter how big he gets.

3. "Road To The Riches" - Kool G. Rap & DJ Polo, 1989

-The way we're rhyming now? He was already doing it then .

4. "A Bird In The Hand" - Ice Cube, 1991

5. "Paid In Full" - Eric B. & Rakim, 1987

6. "I'm Single" - Lil Wayne, 2010

-I'm recently divorced, so I feel what he's saying.

7. "Tears of Joy" - Rick Ross, 2010

-Ross is at the pulpit here.

8. "The Moment I Feared" - Slick Rick, 1988

-It's cinematic. He's at a hip-hop show and ices this girl who played him, then he's in prison getting violated by some dude. This was unheard of.

9. "Empire State of Mind" - Jay-Z, 2009

-This song is huge. It sounds like Broadway. It's New York's modern anthem.

10. "Queen Bitch" - Lil' Kim, 1996

-At the time, females rappers didn't lappeal to the street, but Kim came with the vulgarity, sexuality and gangster shit.

Even I'm shocked, wow.

I missed this post but I'm surspised Ross and Wayne made his list. As Well as Lil Kim. I knew Biggie would be his #1 cause he's said in the past that Biggie was the only rapper he feared Lyrically and that "My Downfall" was probably one of the most lyrical tracks he's ever heard in his life. But I'm shocked by the list. Ironically NaS cosigns Kim lyrically the week she drops "Black Friday", LOL.

im surprised there's no rakim. Most of Nas's flow is rakim

I thought I saw Eric B and Rakim on the list? I'm shocked he went with Lil Kim over Lauryn since he has said she was one of the best lyricist before. Yes, Wayne and Ross are a shock cause again lyrically?, I don't know but NaS did do song wtih both of them in the last year. Again it's his list, that's his view.

Explain how this is a safe list. A "safe" list wouldn't be argued at all as it would match up with usual legend from each decade and coast list that normally look like this:

Pac

Biggie

Rakim

KRS One

Jay Z

Scarface

Big Daddy Kane

LL Cool J

Ice Cube

Slick Rick

Lil' Kim, Wayne, Rick Ross, and Kool G. Rap aren't safe choices. Lil' Kim isn't a safe choice particularly because most lists generally exclude females. Wayne isn't a safe choice because so called "heads" don't view Wayne in that light and we can see this just by looking at this thread. Ross isn't a safe choice because again, "heads" don't view him as a lyricist. Kool G. Rap isn't a safe choice because he's generally overlooked in favor of those that usually make these types of lists.

As a Nas fan, when this question is brought up regarding Top MC's in the game, Nas has a different answer everytime that it is asked. He mostly lists whatever he happens to be listening to the most.

I'm surprised Raekwon and AZ arent on here.

Not surprised that Jay and Big are here. Nas is just showing a healthy respect for his competition.

Wayne isnt a surprise either. Did yall here the verse he dropped on My Generation?
