Teixeira vs. St. Preux this weekend. Talk about a toss up fight, literally any outcome wouldn't surprise me.

Also Michael Johnson vs. Beneil Dariush as the co-main. Classic striker vs. grappler matchup although Dariush's standup is getting better training at Kings MMA. Interesting tidbit of information, in his UFC career Dariush is 1-1 as the betting favorite and 4-0 as the betting underdog.

he WSOF is taking swift action against embattled welterweight champ Rousimar Palhares in the wake of his controversial submission over Jake Shields in this past Saturday’s WSOF 22 headliner.

The promotion will strip him of the welterweight belt and suspending him indefinitely, WSOF President Ray Sefo today confirmed with MMAjunkie.

At this point, it’s unclear what steps Palhares needs to take in order to lift his suspension. An October bout between onetime title challenger Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami, set for WSOF 24, could decide the next welterweight champion, Afromowitz said, but no formal decisions have been made.

Palhares (18-6) submitted Shields (31-8-1) at WSOF 22 with a kimura and continued holding the submission after Shields tapped and referee Steve Mazzagatti intervened to halt the bout. Shields then punched the Brazilian champ and cursed him as officials intervened. In the second round, Palhares was warned by Mazzagatti for gouging Shields’ eyes, an illegal foul (watch the Palhares vs. Shields video highlights).

After the event, Palhares claimed no wrongdoing (see above). However Shields was critical of the now-stripped champ:

The bout is currently under review by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which oversaw the bout at Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, and both fighters could face disciplinary action.

The result was the latest controversial endings in the career of veteran Palhares, who was cut by the UFC in 2013 for holding a submission to long in a bout against Mike Pierce and was suspended in 2010 for the same infraction.

Reached for comment, Palhares manager, Alex Davis, told MMAjunkie he will wait for official word from WSOF officials before issuing a statement.
