As I mentioned above, I have to get out of this state. Which state do you guys suggest I start checking out that has a better IT career presence. I'm more in the web development area with some Data Analysis experience.

go to atlanta. or Raleigh as a last resort

Appreciate it man, thanks!

Many people have told me to move to ATL too.

I'd say go wherever you have family or where you know someone.. If you know someone in DC ask to use their address to apply for jobs.. Same with NY, Miami, San Franscisco etc.. Most jobs do not want to pay for relocation. So you get eliminated if you do no have a local address from the rip..

If you're gonna be in analytics any big city has jobs.. Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, NY, DC, Houston, etc. If you know people in those areas use their address and make different linkedin and indeed profiles for each address and apply apply..

Be ready with some money to travel for interviews.. And you'll land something quick. Thats exactly how I landed my NY role.. Used my moms address and went from there. Had I used my DMV address I wouldn't have got a look..

Yea, thats one of my major problems. Just to even be considered in any of these areas, they wanted people to live around the area. Even in Philly, they are real funny style and I'm only under a hour away and commuted. My thing is relocation and you are right on the money that these jobs do not want to pay for relocation.

Yeah man forget about relocation if you aren't in upper management.. I'm in middle management and they aint wanna pay for it.. Luckily I had a stash so I just did what I had to do.. You can also get a deduction on your taxes for moving so it isn't that bad. It is just putting up the money up front which is painful.

Which is why I mentioned only apply to places where you know someone.. If they'll let you slug it on their couch until you get your first check or two that'll get you in the game. That's how I was able to move to DC. Stayed at my cousins crib for about a month. Once I got a couple of checks I was outta there. It isn't ideal but it's worth it. Cuz you'll have a job in your field effectively starting your career.. And you'll be in a better place economically.

Good luck...

exactly what i did when i first moved to atl. crashed with some fam for a month until i got those checks rollin in. i also used their address too.. which got me looked at quickly.

Finally registered for my ccent on the 24th after a 10 month hiatus, waiting on a call back for a position in the noc.

for the CCNA you can get away with using packet tracer

CCNP... you can buy the physical equipment or use GNS3 (free). or you can use a vendor and purchase rack time... the vendors have all the equipment needed. Id use ipexpert.com or ine.com

We been using gns3 a lot in this fourth cisco class. I got the ios image for a 7200 series cisco router it's really all you need for gns3.

Switches ios images don't work so well with gns 3 so you can probably just buy a couple used 3560 layer 3 switches on ebay and be set with that and gns3.

This shit is really nifty and almost makes buying hardware obsolete

I'm in the last class now for ccna and it's all WAN stuff it doesn't work really at all in packet tracer . GNS3 is actually using the real ios

I'll copy the image to a thumb drive and upload here after next class

Nothing yet, still applying and looking for positions. I've resorted to contacting networks directly to see if I could get in. Almost done with my portfolio site, hopefully that works.

here you go,my teacher is the plug!
http://www.mediafire.com/download/d0vbk0neh2bregf/CiscoIOS.zip

one of them is a 1841 router ios ,one is 2960 switch image , and the other is a 7200 router image(its a beast)

download gns3 and play around with these using it. like i said the switches are kinda iffy so if that 2960 isnt performing well with it you should just get a real 3560 (or 2)

we been doing some cold shit with it, you can add your pc as a cloud an add the local area connection/nic to it and your pc will be on the virtual network with the gns3 devices so you can ping tracert etc to the ios devices

I'll tell you guys one thing: don't live in South Jersey

Drop the story.

Well because you've kindly asked...let's start with a few points:

1. Chris Christie...what he does alone should give you an idea.

2. Unemployment rates are obviously up, and its industry related.

3. In addition, the area has one of the highest cost of living in the nation.

4. Specifically in Atlantic City, the state I've heard from sources have just took over the city. Which if you look at what Camden is going through now, that's what many believe they are planning to do here.

5. With the closing of half of the casinos here, that makes it even worse.

So imagine someone graduating from college here and looking for an IT position outside of college...scarce. I know, I'm making excuses, just get out of south jersey, you're not looking hard enough, etc.

I'll say this, if you make enough income to live on the housing and food prices, you should be fine. But if you are looking for the high business areas for the IT market, it's Philly and NY...with outside areas like Cherry Hill, Trenton, Jersey City, etc.

Just came from a job fair at Stockton University and it went well. But from my perspective, its not a go until you see that offer letter. So it's been a real grind living with what's left of SJ. I've worked in Philly for 6 months and it was great...just not permanent. So now its just been positioning myself in front of these employers and hope for the best. And I'll be honest, student loan and credit card debt has been a major goal/obstacle for me to get over. If that goes away, it wouldn't be a problem.

But the reason why I said what I said about south jersey is that its very difficult to live here, especially in the IT market unless you have a full traction web development or design business. In fact, speaking with a business owner at the job fair, she even said that most of the jobs in the Cape May area are small businesses, family and privately owned. So you look at Atlantic City that at one time there were small business owners throughout, especially in the black community. When casinos came in and the forces that be moved alot of those owners out in the 70's, more of the jobs were starting to go to the casinos, draining the resources of the area.

So I'm looking at temporary substitution until something comes up, at least I have a client for my business to work with. But once I land something, I'm getting out of this area (hurts to even say that). There's nothing here for your career.

Just a heads up, the 2960 and 1841 ios image don't really work but the 7200 router image does.

The 7200 one is the only one you need anyway lol it can do everything

If you need to add serial ports to it right click the symbol after you add it to your simulated network and click configure> then in one of the extra slots add the one that says P4t or + i think it is

Boot camp starts tonight , 4 hours every night this week then we take the icnd1 exam next Monday.

I'm pretty confident in it , I was just gonna take the composite ccna exam since the first 2 classes seem like forever ago. but my school got a bunch of free vouchers so I don't have to pay for this.

I'm honestly more worried about the subnetting questions than anything. I've never been a math guy and I low key forgot how to answer a lot of those questions lol.

Subnetting is not as bad as you think. Just practice daily. I use subnetting.net everyday for at least 2 hours.
