Thanks, and nah its community college but i think the class is 2-3 hours of online lecture along with the regular meetings

Dont know of any good online universities but ill search for some nuggets on backup and recovery

Thnx for passing any of em this way.......

Lemme get that too

sup people. i jumped on the palo alto bandwagon and got certified ACE and PCNSE6 (which is the equivalent of the CCNP security). i just signed with this new company as a contract employee. they're gonna send me to palo alto training (which i already have) and then place me somewhere in the US with a big client. (something like SAS or goldman sachs). agreement is for a year and then i'm free to do whatever I want after that (i can come back to atlanta and find a gig easily, or work from home etc). this is going to get interesting come november 1

Oracle 10g Database Administrator II: Backup/Recovery & Network Administration

Oracle RMAN 11g Backup and Recovery

Those are the texts, still looking for them...looks like is gonna be an oracle DB using RMan (recovery manager) codes

The prereq was Part 1 of the first book so its gonna be a bitch cuz i have no DBA experience (just basic sql)

Give me about a week or two when it gets deep and ill update

Salute to @"King Erauno" for years of IT grindin

Thnx a lot dude. May come in handy.........

I was just talking to this coworker today, Kuwait may be on the list for me shortly......

@Qiv_Owan yo i got the A+ (back before when it never expired), CCNA, CCNA Security, CCNP Security, ACE and PCNSE6 (palo alto networks version of the CCNA and CCNP)

CCNA was tough because its the foundation of networking and they want you to know everything. Truthfully, a lot of the things taught in the CCNA arent used day to day in the real world, (i.e. hexadecimal conversions, etc) i took the CCNA a couple times. make sure you get plenty of hands on practice using GNS3 or packet tracer.

Damn u might as well climb up and get that CCIE, i know u got it in u

Im taking Network+ right now and Im going to have my cert and ccent before the year is out, i took a ccna course and i dont think im ready cuz we just started packet tracer in Network+, CCNA was just Server/ADE

So how much time do you devote towards each subject before u take the exam?

Nah i was gearing up to take the CCIE (even when i started this thread i was working on it) but then i realized that I can switch to another lesser known vendor and still make CCIE money. So.... FUCK a CCIE lol. at this point im burned out and i dont wanna learn much more and CCIE takes 4-6 hours of study and lab time a day.

before each exam i try to study 2 hours a day and then up it to about 4 hours a day for maybe a month or 2 before i take an exam

If it's what you wanna do the IE is still that guaranteed money maker though. I passed my first IE lab (Security) back in 06 and everybody bit. Consultant money $100/hr wasn't hard to get but most people were offering between 70-80/hr W2. FWIW I don't even have a degree either. I get your feeling burned out though. It took me 3 attempts and a year and a half to pass the lab because I got burned out too for a bit. I put the IE to the side and did the CISSP in the between time which took 4 months.

If you do want to go for the ie later my best suggestion is after u pass the written to study a little for the lab, take it, and fail on purpose. You'll learn HOW to study for it which is the most important thing. There are several versions of any given lab, but once you learn HOW to study half of the battle is won. If I would have done that it would have shaved at least 6 months off of study time. I stretched myself too thin and studied EVERYTHING my first attempt and it wasn't needed. I ended up forgetting some fundamentals by focusing on so many minute details. The lab is hard, but more ambiguous than hard and lots of laying of technologies that can cause each other to break so you have to constantly revisit and fix stuff you broke as you move through the test.

Good luck with the PA stuff. They have some cool stuff going on. If you have time Check out A10 networks, they have some load balancing integration stuff going with PA and I think Extreme networks (switch company) that people are biting on which is the competition for Cisco RISE, Citrix Netscaler, and firewall service chaining.

What's up I.C community? I've been a lurker for many years. I recall a statement by one of my favorite posters (Dark Knight....or some shit) he said if you ain't majoring in STEM then you're wasting your time. Long story short, I presently have 2 bullshit degrees, & can't find a fucking job.

A ninja gon have to go to grad school now. I'm going to study Data Analytics. Right now I'm taking classes in Data Analysis with Excel, to progress into Hadoop 1, and Hadoop 2. Luckily I took a gang of Statistics and probability type courses so I'm familiar with researching/interpreting huge swaths of data.

Lynda.com and Coursera have come in handy......Salute!!

@"the dukester" are you taking the Data Science course in Coursera?

Nah, I'm taking Data Analysis at a community college (ironically it's the same one I graduated from.) I went to a career fair last week at my old University. And 90% out of 200 companies were looking for STEM majors/graduates. Programming, coding, etc. The arts and humanities majors weren't getting any love!!

Aiight, somebody help me out......

This dumb @ss company I work for is doing some strange thangs, but can't nobody figure it out. They be firing ppl right after you put in your two weeks. Today is the 2nd time that this happened, at least that I know of. For some reason, this IT company I work for could have employees willing to leave for whatever reason. It could be a family emergency or you just don't wanna work for em. If you put in your 2 weeks notice Mon., they call you to the office and you think its something they wanna hash out or correct w/ the employee, only to find out they called you to the office to fire you. Does anyone know what could be the reason for this??

Then on top of that, come to find out. Lets call this one ex-employee "J". "J" already got let go due to reduction of workforce (even though they already had someone in his seat The Very Next Day w/ his passport and flight info squared away), but the kicker is "J" ain't even getting his unemployment. Mind you, he was let go months ago. So "J" called the State they based out of to get his unemployment rollin' and they never heard of him working for the company. So basically, the State seeing it as he NEVER was employed w/ the company at all. From what was discussed b/w us left is that's illegal!

That's only the tip of the iceberg. I went to lunch today and found this out and more. There is actually a few employees that got short changed by this company tbh. I can name quite a few things they be doing, but the main thing that was on the table, was if its possible that what happened to "J" can happen to us.......
