@king Erauno

i really think VOIP is where i want to go, any suggestions on certs and classes? ccna-voice?

i feel like traditional networking is too crowded...every1 claims to be a network engineer

gotta start with the basics..the CCNA is a good beginning point. then the CCNA voice, CCNP voice and CCIE voice. if you go hard enough you could get all of these in a year and a half or so.

let me add that you have to get the ccna first or all of the other certs i mentioned aren't fulfilled. you could go straight to ccie though.

On the Server certification path, yours is similar.

I'm on the database certification path.

Here's a statement on MCITP:http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/mcitp-certification.aspx#fbid=p9FfDL0DfrL

O i c. yea mcse/mcsa will be the next logical progression on my certification path after im done. what are your thoughts on obtaining a cert on RHCSE? i know many employers arent utilizing linux as application and database servers compared to microsoft, but i thought it might be valuable just to have the knowledge

In my honest opinion, do what I'm doing now and go for the basic/general certifications first like A+, MCSA, CCNA, etc. Then you could go to the more advanced and/or specialized certs like a RHCSE, RHCE,etc., because you want to use every certification that you receive as a credit towards helping you land that job.

very easy if you have any type of computer hardware knowledge. take a week to read an a+ book and then get practice tests for 2 weeks.

Yea I have an IT degree but then certs makes the world move. Trying to build IT experience before I get my BA so I want to knock out easy certs so I can get hired doing help desk. No courses this summer so best time to cert up. Unless that IT internship comes thru.

King eurano school me on security+ also. Trying to get on this grind

My one thing about CompTIA is that so many people go to them first for certs, I think in terms of employers looking for candidates, they see alot of CompTIA A+ certs on resumes. So I believe that the value of the CompTIA went down over the years, especially with the new renewal policy that forces candidates to fresh up on their knowledge.

To me, knowledge and the certification of knowledge goes a long ways of building your career, free or not. To keep in tune with the industry technology in terms of trends does keep you motivated.

basically there is the CCENT and the CCNA. you can take the CCNA straight up which is 1 exam or you can take it in 2 parts which is the CCENT (part 1 and 2) its all the same. one is more condensed. i forgot the prices but i think its cheaper to take ccna as well

Just got this email and need help

Good afternoon XXXX,

We have received your resume for the Internship Program at the OFR. Please let me know if you’re still interested. Mark Thomas, Associate Director Applications Development, and Renata Spinks, Special Assistant to the Chief Technology Officer would like to schedule a phone interview. Do you have availability this Thursday at 11am? You would be speaking with both of them separately for approximately 30 minutes each.

Thank you,

Mark

Mark O’Leary

U.S. Department of the Treasury

Office of Financial Research

Haven't done a phone interview before, in fact im pretty bad at interviews because im always nervous. Need tips on how to go about a phone interview. I know a couple of yall posted yall aced some before so I need that magic. I want this internship since it pays $43,896.00 to $61,731.00, thats pretty good pay for me at least.

nothing to it. just relax, and make sure you can talk about your resume and the technical requirements of the internship at hand.

try to make them as comfortable as possible. give examples of a time when you used the technology.

when they ask, tell them your strengths.

when they ask for a weakness, say something like you tend to take work home alot, or you dont like giving up unresolved issues etc

good luck. thats a great salary for an internship
