According to Hits Daily Double, Epic Records is unhappy with the idea of Future releasing a free mixtape, because they’re not done with DS2‘s campaign. Are they trying to block the release entirely? That could be the case. We’ll find out soon what’s going on.

I been speaking on this shit for years for rappers to do this. Only thing you need a major for is for marketing you as a major star and to get your material into retail outlets - that's the only reason why they'll even market you. But most ppl can buy an album online from their phones anyways so just cut out the middle man and make all your money. Plus you can use touring to get your name out like Chance The Rapper, Wiz Khalifa, KRIT and Mac Miller did.

If I were Drake or Future and I knew I was going gold or platinum or at the very least 150k in the first week, fuck a label I'm going independent. The game is in such a beautiful place right now. TDE has the GOAT business model for their shit, they basically doing what Dipset did, just sign a label deal for distribution (with Interscope, Shady Aftermath) then sign each of your artists to a joint venture deal with a major so they can get marketed like their major artists while still retaining independence both over their bank and career. Kendrick did 1.5 mil on GKMC and currently 800k on TPAB worldwide, TDE raking in a lot of money they can later use to market their other talent, it helps them thrive long-term. RocNation is another label doing that as well, that's why J.Cole was able to get away with a surprise album, him & Kendrick prolly going to be on the forbes list next year too.
