All Take Care is missing is that track where Drake and Weezy go in, ala Ignant Shit, Miss Me. But I guess Ross covered good on Lord Knows.

Weezy disappointed me on all his features on this album.

he really did....and it wasn't even like 20 bars, it was like drake did the body work to the track and ross came in with a extra upper cut to put the song on its back for the ten count

Take Care Review

Before I get into the song by song, I just gotta put this album into perspective. Every Drake project has had a overarching theme that defines points in his career. Room For Improvement showed him as a young eager spitter who wants to make a name for himself in Toronto and painted him as humble yet competitive. Comeback Season painted him already taking over Toronto as the lead act in his city and trying to put the city on his back as he tries to put his foot into the door of the mainstream hiphop scene. So Far Gone had Drake on the "cusp of greatness" in the mainstream as the "Next Big Thing" and chronicled his adjustments to fame. Thank Me Later was his step into the limelight as a top Hip Hop act and had him still adjusting to fame and him wanting the most from his craft.

So it seemed like a sophmore slump was inevitable. Was he still gonna whine about fame? Well as he said in a interview this album is about his current position where he likens himself to a king. It displays a more confident Drake now that he has credentials under his belt, yet being still the same emotional herb we all know. He considers himself in my own words, a young OG in the rap game. Keep the themes of the album in mind while listening to it.

1. Over My Dead Body

You'd expect a harder sound with a title like that, but then again this is more Drake's lane. 40 seems to be the best at caputuring that. The sample is actually on point with the content of the song too.

The theme of his king like confidence mixed with his emotional vunerablity is highlighted in THE FIRST 2 bars. "I think I killed everybody in the game last year, man fuck it I was on though. And I thought I found the girl of my dreams at the stripclub, mm-mm fuck it I was wrong though" It sets the tone for Take Care perfectly.

His bars are real. He paints his position of his career perfectly, his high expectations, people trying to bump him out of the way for the next "next big thing" in hip hop etc. Lyrically he's uses the typical unique Drake style thowing in some sung bars with his flow. He's got some punchlines ranging from great (the slave / Comeback season line), to mediocre (the Dim sum double entendre....kind of a reach. Same with the Kevin Hart line) to bad (the paint drying line). Nothing too bad to take away from the song though.

Rating 5/5: Sets up the album perfectly, real as fuck, and good lyrically.

2. Shot For Me

The first singing drop. I fully expected simping but in the first bitch he's actually.....stunting on a bitch?! He attributed all of this girl's persona to him as he "made her who she is". That was actually kinda trill. Kinda fits the themes of Take Care too, especially if consider that this is Drake we're talking about; a pioneer in the field of simping. The hook is good, not great. The beat does a lot for the hook behind the scenes.

So what happened in the second verse where he on some half simping half breakup song shit? His tone was catchy in the lyrics but he didn't say anything noteable. This verse actually takes away from the song.

Then he does a little spoken word drop at the end that was a lot better than the actual verse. Huh? The beat sounds very R&Bish, but it sounds great. Sequencing wise, tthe song does a cheap move by sampling the next song. But it works.

Rating 3.5/5: It sounds good but drops the bar in the second verse. Defnitely gonna end up as one of those songs everyone likes but me.

3. Headlines

Fantastic song, great choice for a single. Captures the spirit of Take Care very well covering people's worries that he was falling off, his newfound confidence (he was feeling himself enough to even talk about catching bodies haha) and how he isn't threatend by emerging rap acts. 40 and Boi-1da came through on the beats, Drake came through on everything else, singing wise as well as lyrically. This marks the first switch up in flow on the album as well as probably in 2 years for Drake in general. And it's worth the wait.

My Rating: 5/5 I got nothing bad to say about this song.

4. Crew Love ft. Weeknd

Let's get this out of the way: This song belongs to The Weeknd. This should be on his mixtape with a Drake feature. Doc Mckenny and Weeknd did such a fantastic job with the beat and vocals that I wouldn't rate this below a 5 even if a Lil B verse was at the end of this. The beat has a eerie and airy feel while Weeknd sings about groupies giving attention to him because he and his crew are blowing up.

As much praise as I give to Weeknd for his job, Drake actually did well on this. His verse is about him providing for his friends and family in appreciation of all the things that the do or would do (shoot people) for him. The verse was good, just....this is Weeknd's song.

My rating 5/5: A great song to smoke and zone out to.

5. Take Care ft. Rihanna

Man what the fuck is this?

This sounds like some B.o.b. or Bruno Mars shit. Rihanna's hook isn't catchy. Drakes verse content wise is on some simping tip.

The saving graces of the song? The beat has an island feel to it, there was like some tribal dance sounding sample thing at the end, Drake's singing wasn't bad on this and he flowed well.

Isn't good enough for me to give it at least two stars though. Easily the worst song on the album. It's even worse when you think about how perfectly Club Paradise would have sequenced in this spot.

Rating 1.5/5: I hope Rihanna at least topped him off to justify this bullshit.

6. Marvin's Room/ Buried Alive ft. Kendrick Lamar (Combined rating 4/5)

These were combined I guess for disc space reasons, but I'll review them seperately as well

Marvins Room: Emotional Drake makes his first appearance on Take Care in full speed. Marvins Room has Drake getting drunk and calling an ex to shit on her current boyfriend and to urge her to remember their old relationship. It's a herblike concept and it doesn't fit with Take Care theme-wise. (it was added because of it's popularity though so I understand) Though this song shows that Drake is a fantastic songwriter. This is anything but the typical R&B track and it may capture many guys in a moment of herb-like weakness. The production captures the mood of "pathetic slag bitching to his ex" well too. This song isn't that great though

Rating: 3/5

Buried Alive: It's a straight Kendrick drop and since it's surgically attached to Marvins Room, it really makes you think twice before hitting the skip button on track 6. I don't listen to Kdot, but he's got a great flow for this song. The production along with this voice adds a creepy feel for the song.

The best part? What it does for the Take Care as an album. The song is actually about Drake, more specifcally Kdot's first encounter with Drake. Kendrick's worries and take on fame sound eerily similar to Thank Me Later Drake with lines like "The reason why my best friend said she love me more than life, But I live a double life and need to let her go". He describes how he met Drake that he only identifies as "the canadian" or "Mr.OVOXO" which is a great touch. He makes the encounter sound so epic with lines " Hit me on the cellular, thought he was gonna sell me a, false word Like the rappers I know" and "A reality living in the matrix, We talk casualy about the industry, And how the women be the tastemakers for the shit we makin’, Then he said that he was the same age as myself, And it didn’t help cuz it made me even more rude and impatient".

This is the OG status Take Care is pushing in the song speaks volumes for it.

My Rating 5/5: Pay whomever came up with the idea for this.

7. Underground Kings

The beat is chill but not particularly smooth. This was one song that production couldn't carry Drake.

Drake rose to the challenge though. This flow is his typical one, but this song is full of quoteables. This song focuses on Drake in the underground and his inspirations to get where he is. He refrences Wayne's music as an influence, Yo Gotti stunting as an inspirtation and his talent that other people saw as the go ahead that school wasn't for him. This is one of those rapping ass nigga songs, and Drake comes through and kills it.

My Rating 4.5/5: He comes through on the lyrics. Just didn't have a "It" factor to push it 5/5 for me. I blame the beat I guess.

8. We'll Be Fine (ft. Birdman)

This song is just on some average shit. The second verse is the only one that seems about something since it has Drake stunting on a rapper he was on the level with, but now surpassed. So it fits the bill as far as album theme goes. Lyrically this ain't all that. He flows well but there isn't anything worth noting. The best part of this song is the hook. The beat sounds like something Wayne would rap off of. The song ends with just Birdman talking shit. That drop isn't nothing bad but having him just drop by to give props to Drake feels like some debut album shit.

My Rating 3/5: As average as average gets

9. Make Me Proud (ft Nicki Minaj)

I'm noticing the pattern here. The women Drake simps the hardest get added to the album even though the songs suck ass. Thankfully Nicki Minaj is the last one of these type women. In spite of me ragging on this song early, I'm giving it a 3/5 because it has 4 saving graces.

1. The Beat is hard as fuck, especially in the beginning. It's a shame it was wasted. Worth 1 point.
2. Drake made a catchy ass hook. Also Nicki's little singing drop was alright. Worth 1 point.
3. This may be the first time Drake got Nicki on a song. Though given that both their verses was shit, it aint much to brag about. Nicki's just happened to be dogshit. Worth .5
4. This song's louder baseline and up tempo feel is really good sequencing wise consider the monster song lurking on the next track. Worth half a point again.

Otherwise? This song is garbage. Drake turned his simp level to max and I already see "Pussy run everything fuck that noise" all over my twitter. The only reason he got the edge over Nicki is cause he was really flowing well with the multi-syllable rhymes.

Nicki was going in a little bit in the beginning, but just started vomiting awful punchlines. "I'm a star.... SHERRIF BADGE!!!" Get the fuck out of here.

My Rating 3/5: Hook makes this at least listenable.

10. Lord Knows ft. Rick Ross

My god this beat. It's loud, it's powerful, it's triumphant. Guarenteed to capture attention. Just Blaze went in. And so did Drake and Ross. Drake's verse was the perfect blend of his own emotional vunerablity and recognition of his critics, with confidence, realness and the ability to shrug the critics off and disrespect his haters. If there were any criticism it's that the beat was almost abosrbing Drake's verse. It was damn near eating him alive. It fits the album obviously.

Ross comes in and the beat switches and it's still impressive. He spits a verse worthy of this song. There really shouldn't be any more doubts of Ross's rapping afer this. He rode the beat perfectly.

My rating 5/5: Gonna end up being the most recognized song on the album for sure.

11. Cameras / Good Ones Go (Combined rating 5/5)

Cameras: Two outstanding tracks back to back. This song is smooth as fuck, thanks to the Jon B "Calling On You" sample. It sounds better on Cameras sped up than it does originally.

Drake flowed really well and it sounds like he's actually spitting game. He even does a damn near parody of himself talking about being a knight in shining armor, then turning right around and saying "before I'm on the next thing YMCMB"

The Jon B sample on the hook is a great drop, and Drake assists it well with the bridge. Just good song writing.

My Rating 5/5: Smooth as all hell.

Good Ones Go: Another singing drop. Not too mad at this one, though I don't like the way it sounds for some reason. It's half simping but it actually fits with Take Care's themes. It kinda shows how, as a famous person, Drake is in between a rock and a hard place. He wants a good girl to wife up, yet can't let go of the making it rain in Houston and fuckin hoes life. It's real hollywood.

My Rating 3.5/5: Nothing outstanding and probably will skip unless I'm listening to the album front to back. Not bad enough to drag down Cameras though.

11. Doing It Wrong
(ft. Stevie Wonder)

Production ain't doing a whole lot here. Another one Drake has to carry himself.

It's a singing drop again. This one I kinda like, mainly because of Drake's pen game. He says some real quotes on his take on this generation and love "We Live in a generation of not bein in love, and not bein together. But we sure make it feel like we're together..'cuz we're scared to see each other with somebody else." He's truly adjusted to fame in a sense. Adds to the continuity of the album.

Stevie Wonder does his thing at the end with the harmonica. It ups the listenability of this song well since Drake's singing isn't all that. Stevie is what pushes this from "ok song" to "good song"

My Rating 4/5: Thank Stevie.

12. The Real Her ft Lil Wayne and Andre 300

Let's get this out of the way. This song is about saving strippers.

And I'm not mad. Because it just sounds great. 40 set the mood and this is the best Drake singing drop on Take Care. The rapping is handled by Wayne and 3k. I'm really surprised by Wayne here. He just dropped an album full of dogshit bars, but he came correct here. And 3k brought his natural flavor to this song which was assisted by 40's production. I hate the song concept but this song tackles it in such a real way. Drake even acknowledges how if he saves this girl it would mean he can't complain later to his friends cause he brought it on himself. Just another way Take Care shows how much Drake as grown not just as a artist but as a man.

My rating 4.5/5: The half point was taken off cause....it's a song about saving hoes. But it sounds great.

13. Look What You've Done

This song will probably end up being the most slept on song on this album. But a song like this is essential to making a truly complete album. This song is a dedicated to his mother and aunt; and I have to say that out of all the "SONG FO MY MAMA!" songs I've heard in hiphop, this is probably the best one. It's natural that Drake would make it. Most rappers to talk about how their mom stuck with them through the struggle. Drake didn't have that struggle though. Drake's unqiue background forces him to take a different approach, so he instead makes a very heartfelt and personal take on his family support instread.

Chase N. Cashe's production set the tone for the song perfectly. Drake flowed really well almost out of necessity since this isn't the type of song you can just be heaving wack punchlines on. It works.

My Rating 5/5: Artistry at work.

14. Hell Yeah Fuckin Right ft. Lil Wayne

The beat is eh, nothing to write home about. Not the biggest fan of T-Minus.

Wayne is the real star here. How the fuck is all your best verses on DRAKE's album? His both of their flows were on point but Wayne's came through the most with the content and punchlines. Lil Wayne verses are feast or famine with punchlines and here Lil Wayne feasted. This was almost the song where Wayne, FINALLY outshines Drake on a track. But Drake countered hard with some great multi's and the best bars on the song. "She asked What have I learned since getting richer,I learned working with the negatives could make for better pictures, I learned Hennessy and enemies is one hell of a mixture, Even though it’s fucked up, girl, I’m still fucking wit ya"

The song itself shows Drake's comfortability in Young Money's roster, despite the media trying to drive a wedge between them in the form of a short "interview" in the bridge. Another example of Take Care showing Drake's growth especially when you consider how awkward he sounded on We Are Young Money with the rest of the roster.

My Rating 5/5: Both rappers flexed lyrically.

15. Practice

This song is one half a tribute to Juvienile's "Back That Azz Up" and one half a R&B song. Drake's singing really made the hook sound great with the flavor of the original song. The song is a unique take on fuckin a hoe; considering all the men she had before her were a practice run before meeting him. That is a weirdly confident concept. It fits with Take Care though. Otherwise the lyrics are bland here. It's a nice song though.

My Rating 4/5: It's a nice inclusion. Drake's flavor on the song that's so unlike him still works, just shows you how legit he is as an artist.

16. The Ride ft. The Weeknd

I ain't listening to this till I buy a phyiscal copy

17. The Motto ft. Lil Wayne

Good choice to make it a bonus track. I love this beat so shoutout to T-Minus for that. Drake switches his flow up AGAIN this song. Nobody can accuse him of not doing it anymore. I love this song though. It's a rappin ass nigga track for straight up lyrical liking types. Shoutout to Drake for calling out Uncle Luke though. Wayne came correct.... again. This must be a record.

My rating 4.5/5: I'd give it a perfect, but because I know the Tyga remix is floating around out there somewhere I have to take a bit off. The version with Tyga makes the song so much more complete.

18. Hate Sleeping Alone

See "The Ride".

:(

As for Wayne on the motto: Wish a nigga would like a tree in this bitch, And if a leaf fall put some weed in that bitch, That's my MO add a B to that shit

That was enough for me.

Meet the Sniper Good review I agreed with most of your points and observations.

Only I think Shot for Me was a good track. To be in a position to shit on your exes in this way must be a great feeling. Ha

Look What You've Done is a great tune like you said it will be slept on. **and the second verse is about his uncle**

The Ride though is the best track in my opinion from the beat to the lyrics to the hook. Literally Ride music.

lol headlines sounds like over pt 2 to me, and i hated that song, and their beats sound too much like show tunes to me.

wayne starts off nice on the motto, but he just randomly ends it with that "oh my god becky look at her butt. tunechi!" shit and it ruins his verse for me. but thats why i like the tyga remix because he kinda balances it all out and im able to appreciate the song more. i might bump the motto up to 3, but the remix is a 4.5 - 5 for me
