There are gems on this track but then you get alot of shit that feel like leftovers from Drake's first album"Thank me Later". In fact this feels like Thank me Later 2.0.

Songs like "The Resistance" for example coulda made this album.

You could probably fit that song right before "Furthest Thing"

Suspiciously, it seems he been used the same old flow also.

And for that, Drake actually took a step back when he shoulda took a step forward. He probably woulda been better off waiting and just releasing all this shit on a mixtape or some shit.

I mean even the intro form "Take Care" shits on the intro on this one but it's probably not even fair since "Over My Dead Body" is probably a top 5 Drake song of all time.

I guess I wouldnt have minded if this was more like "Take Care 2" but the fact remains this is "Thank me Later 2" even felt that way when I heard the Jay Z track.

Light Up (feat Jay-Z)

Light Up 2.0 (aka Pound Cake feat Jay-Z)

That being said there are gems in there like "Too Much", & "From Time". Even "Pound Cake" and "Furthest Thing" are admittedly hot tracks, but it all goes back to lack of growth. Drake is supposed to be the leader of the new school, so when the leader doesn't evolve, it only helps for the followers to gain some ground on him, like a Kendrick Lamar.

I just expected more from dude and perhaps a new party banger or two that aren't old sorta like "HYFR" and "YOLO" maybe needed another "5am" type of joint. I mean another "Lord Willin" woulda been cool, or a collabo with Kendrick Lamar of all people with pure hip hop going back and forth. Instead we are left with songs that aren't bad imo but we've heard either soo long ago, that their impact doesn't hit on this album as in "Started From the Bottom" and "All Me"... but I'll personally still bump the fuck out of both.. especially "All Me" since it only came out a little more than a month ago.

Maybe a more braggadocious type of Drake was what i was hoping for that was gonna step on some more throats, just didnt get it. It was a little too non aggressive. I know it's Drake, but it wasn't aggressive to me in terms of MOTIVATIONAL content. We coulda used "Dreams Money Did Buy" as a Part 2 to the original.

At least that wouldn't remind me of Thank me Later.

Overall underneath the surface I felt like Drake lacked the vibe needed to make a another "Take Care" type of effort. Obvious strains on his relationships with the Weekend (even tho everything is cool now) and YMCMB members Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne imo has hurt how this album came out. He coulda easily had another banger with the Weekend, or shoulda gave himself more time to get PartNextDoor on it at least. Shoulda had some cool laid down track with Wayne or Nicki or both. You gotta admit the chemistry is there. I woulda liked a collabo with someone he hasn't collaboed with... (Scarface is from Houston... that coulda been dope or even something with Pusha T that coulda competed with "Lord Willin" on some finer things type of subject matter, I mean Wayne collabs with Chris brown, why couldnt Drake collab with someone he said he idolized even if he dont like his older bro)

Going back to his first album which I'm tired of mentioning, he seemed to use the same flow on about every song minus3-4 songs. Like when I first heard "HYRF" the flow at the beginning made that song period. Tried mimicking that hundreds of times.

3.5 out of 5 after several listens. Shit was kinda light for someone of Drake's caliber.

I literally left me feeling like I was listening to for an hour straight minus the Jeezy verse. Not a bad album AT ALL just a bit disappointing and not progressive enough for me. I expected more of a great talent like him ( I mean this woulda been a step up for J. Cole but for Drake it's a step back)

Maybe on the next album.
