MTV recently caught up with Drake backstage at the Barclays Center in New York City after he had finished his rehearsals for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, which are taking place tonight.

Above, Drizzy explains what he has in store for his performance and mentions that it will be his first time ever singing live on television. He will be performing both his singles “Hold On, We’re Going Home” and “Started From The Bottom“.

“I get to do the new record, I’m doing ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ into ‘Started From the Bottom,’ so it’s really just an exciting performance to show the range and also show the diversity of music on the album.”

“We’re blowing the stage up, I got things going off, I had to test with the fire marshall and it’s gonna be good. I’ve been doing this for a while, pyro doesn’t scare me. You know I’m ready, if you’ve ever been on stage with Lil Wayne, he likes explosions and they’re loud you know, so I’m used to it.”

“I’m pretty much just trying to stay consistent. I released the artwork the other day, so you’ll see a bit of that in there. Just trying to set it off, September 24, that’s all I’m focused on, this performance and then just going home to put some final touches on the album with 40 and that’s it.”

After the jump below, you can watch part 2 of Drizzy Drake‘s interview with MTV. He talks about how badly he wants to win a KAWS Moonman and if he loses out to Macklemore, he will offer him money to buy his award.

Drake will be sitting right in front of Rihanna OMG!

MTV posted a picture to Instagram of their seating arrangements, and it appears that they have changed the seating from when we last saw it earlier this week. Initially, Drake was seated on one side of the Barclays Center, in front of Emeli Sande and next to FUN. In this new picture, however, Drake is seated in front of Rihanna, seemingly on the other side of the room. Meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon happens to be sitting next to Rihanna. Now this is an interesting turn of developments.

I was just thinking about this.... yo Drake been at this for a looong time, arguably... he's lasted the test of time in the industry. He officially dropped a single in 2006 but didn't really blow up until 2009. Still even if you use 2009, nigga been in the game for nearly 5 years - which is a lot more than a lot of these other niggas can claim. Wayne was smart by letting him be his own man and not the "2nd in command". I give Wayne a lot of props for that shit. Never thought Drake of all niggas would even get this far so congrats to him.

The real question is when will Drake hit his peak. Not just in terms of popularity, but the album that is without a doubt his best work, that people will remember in 10-20+ years.

Drake's biggest strength is his song writing. It's like what I said about "Find Your Love" before. Niggas clowned him for singing, but it was a good song so you couldn't hate on it but so much (til that video came out at least lol). That and even niggas who hate Drake admit that time to time he does go in lyrically so even through all the clowning in some way he does have the respect of being an actual good rapper too.
