First listen, it was dope....

Niggas.

I've had this joint on repeat all morning trying to determine what it is about the cut that is so polarizing. Why, despite Drake's valiant effort, I can't quite give it to the young nigga until I realized what it is. Hov's quotables are just too strong. This nigga Jay has the uncanny ability to outshine a nigga's whole verse with one line. The shit that he says sticks with you for years. And he smushed four of them joints in this particular cut. The beans line. The many of us / plenty of us shit. The mandarin joint. And his ending line.

I can't hold nigga's for feeling Drake had the better verse, but the issue is different with him. Ya'll niggas seen the new Batman movie, when Bane breaks his foot off in Batman's ass, looks down at him and says 'You fight like a younger man, with nothing held back. Admirable but mistaken.' This cut was reminiscent of that scene. Or maybe even that scene in Dragonball Z, when Trunk's goes at Goku. Front on that comparison if you want. Hov's shit was relaxed, maybe a little lazy, but the shit was simply more effective. The nigga said more, with fewer words.

Jay took it with quotables, but Drake may have had the stronger overall verse. Ima have to sit on it for a few days.

this... u can tell Drake was waiting on this rematch.. but there is something these new cats lack that niggas like jay,nas, lupe, mos def and cats like that have.. Yea they can flow and can even rap but they shit doesn't stick to u.. ive heard some songs with nas that made me wish that the song was longer.. nigga be almost mad the song ended..same with those other elite level rappers

Yea I agree. This album sounds more like he made it quickly. Not rushed, just a lot of the same theme/feeling throughout it. Take care was more versatile. Either way they're both dope and drake doesn't disappoint. Him and kanye aren't great "rappers" but they do make great music.

Actually what made me a Drake fan initially was the rapping. that is still imo his best skillset.

I skipped 6 and 7 but pretty much a 4.5 out of 5. I think most people would give it at least 4 if you're not feeling songs like "All me" and "Started from the bottom".

The last tracks from 9 to the end really hit home. Take Care is better tho, but imo that was classic. I think the deluxe version might either bring this album up or down a notch.

Added "5 AM" as a bonus to my version because I wanted more songs like that from Drake on the actual album but didn't quite get that from this one. Also "The Motion", I dont think was suppose to be on it but that's what I got at the end also.

I'm feeling Prodigy's joint tho. that might be my favorite this year. But commercially it probably will be Drake's but we got time to see what happens.
