Shit was like a Divorce. Jay was the rich dad with the nice house. Dame was the broke ass mama. Of course niggas was gonna wanna go with Hov. He took Young Chris, Kanye, Freeway and Beans later on. If Jay kept it real with all those niggas, "like yo, I really don't fuck with yall, Im not gonna do shit for yall career besides Yeezy" niggas would've stayed with Dame. Instead Jay played the fence and threw them niggas the bait.

Dame was far from broke and he had DDMG. Last time i checked Jay put out Bleek and Young Gunz album first as Def Jam President and they flopped, he probably used up a lot of credit and reputation putting his artist first. That's when Rihanna and Neyos career took off, Def Jam/L.A. Reid probably told him fuck Bleek and Young Gunz, and i doubt he would put his rep on the line for some niggas who flopped.

Truth of the matter is none of them niggas outside of Cam, Jay, and Kanye are stars. They over achieved imo by even selling gold.

It was all of theirs...not just Hov's...Rocafella was a bit more intimate than the typical artist-label relationship. It wasn't like Jay recorded an album by himself and handed it into a label to get distributed. Jay, Dame and Biggs was 3 New York hustlers who grinded together to get their company launched..

I can understand the nostalgic value, but this is business, no room for that when you talking millions of dollars...one album for Jay albums 2-7...seems like a simple choice...it's like some of ya'll dislike Jay so much there's no blame at all being placed on Dame...Dame had no distribution so there was no reason for any artist to be with him anyway after Rocafella broke up...there was nothing to be stolen from Dame or Biggs because they all got their equal split when Rocafella disbanded...and the artist Jay took with him he put out, they just didn't do shit (Young Gunz 2nd album, Bleeks 534 album both flopped and were terrible) and outside of Cam'Ron and Kanye nobody ever went platinum anyway on the ROC so it's not like they could say "Jay fucked our albums up" cuz them niggas never sold anyway before the split

edit: outside of Jay, Cam'Ron, and Kanye

They didn't want to go with Dame, cause they knew without Jay, Dame was fucked. If I'm one of them execs, you think after you done busted in my office, called me all types of bitches and motherfuckers I'm gonna give a fuck about you now when you trying to push anything other than Jay-Z? Yeah, maybe Dame screaming and yelling helped in the RD days, but after a while, it was redundant and Dame started to look like an attention whore.

But he still sacrificed his reputation..even in the event of the execs thinking he was being an attention whore.

no...i just see through the bullshit

I've called Dame an arrogant asshole 15 times in the this thread. I just hate that Jay has the world thinkin he did no wrong to the people he came up with...

Why are people talking about this shit 8 years later though, people don't even talk about Death Row like this. I guess because Dre came out on the better end of the shit unlike Dame.

Exactly how I feel about it as well.

Dame was the quintessential asshole and regardless if those execs liked it or not.

seeing as how plenty of people have made it in the music industry w/o acting like Dame Dash did couldn't it be said that somebody as smart as him should've figured out a better way to go about his business and realize that the people he was cussing out on a daily basis he still had to have interactions with...that shit adds up after a while and makes people simply not want to deal with you...there's a time to go into beast mode and there's a time to handle things in a professional manner...Dame didn't either didn't know or didn't care where that line was...he chose to act like that Jay-Z didn't make him...

Yep...lol. smh.

But I guess he felt thats how he had to be to get Rocafella off the ground.

In 94-95, they were just some niggas trying to get on and avoid shady industry execs.

just as I said Jay has some blame in it as well...it just seems like niggas like to gloss over what Dame Dash did that contributed to the demise of Rocafella because in the end, Jay came out on top career-wise...like some people think the only way Jay could have made it was to somehow put his foot on Dame's neck and keep it there even 8 years later...

feeling like you have to be an abrasive in 95 when you're getting off the ground is different than continuing to be that same way in 2000 when your company is successful...and that was Dame's issue

"Muthafuckas call me an asshole everyday, but I don't listen to that shit 'cause I know what's right and my crew tells me it's right.."

Question: Where was Jay when Dame was being an asshole, putting his rep on the line for him when the exec trying to jerk them each and everyday?
Answer: Golfing and going to lunch with Lyor Cohen determining how to cut the Roc in pieces....

And was Jay, being a partner and friend letting Dame know all the spazzing he was doing could've possibly been bad in the near feature?

?

you think Jay never said anything to Dame? That one day he just popped up and said "So, I'm out and taking the name Rocafella with me"...and you say "cut the Roc in pieces" like Dame didn't get compensated...when you turn down a deal for a couple years before you actually accept it and tell your other business partners that somebody is offering oyu a side deal, it's hard to say a nigga was being sneaky...foul yes, but sneaky no...

Good discussion going on here. But like someone else said earlier, Biggie never makes "Juicy" or a lot of his hits without Puffy.....

Seriously, why do ya'll act like Dame was doing shit out of the goodness of his heart? Like this nigga didn't have a vested interest in seeing Jay-z succeed too, ya'll niggas acting like he was going to bat for Bleek. lol

Plus ya'll need to get the fuck off that battling for Jay-z shit, because the nigga was belittling his own people. Just Blaze said Dame use to shit on Kanye, Bleek said Dame use to say inappropriate shit to him, Beans said Dame use to talk shit about Jay-z behind his back.

Dame was the one that gave Kanye a chance though....if it wasn't for Dame introducing 'Ye Jay's Blueprint album probably wouldn't gotten as big.
