Wasn't him and jay actually preparing to do a collabo before he died....

I would believe this if we were talking about Big L.

the only thing biggie was supposed with jay-z was the commsion and that's it

because biggie would have over shadowed him

considering he was cool with Big and looking back over his catalogue I dont think he have a hard time selling and gaining respect as a rapper.Your forgetting Jay-Z one of the goat

What? You better be trolling dawg. 50 and lil wanye wouldn't have a fan base if big was alive.

But really that whole coulda woulda shoulda blah blah blah is stupid. Jay's 1st album after BIG died (Vol1.) went plat. Now hypothetically speaking lets say BIG had lived. He probably woulda been featured on Vol.1 (probably a song like Wher I'm From). Lets say Jay released the song w/ BIG as his 1st single & it shot to #1 helping Vol. 1 sell 3 million instead of 1 million. Wouldnt that mean Jay was more successful w/ BIG still here that he was w/ BIG dead. Thats why this whole hypothetical scenario shit is stupid. Now close this repetitive ass thread plz!!!

I think things wouldnt have changed. They wouldve gotten money together, and Jay wouldnt be making alternaive music. Big wouldve kept a fire under that ass. Big wouldve kept alot of shit in line and Bad boy wouldnt have fell off the way it did. But who knows...Maybe DMX signs to bad boy instead of ruff ryders. The lox wouldnt have left...

Jay and Biggie would've been probably running shit and both showing out each other on their albums. It wouldn't be any overshadowing whatsoever. And Jay would be popular, only second to Big though.

Dudes kill me with this what if ish,

If thats the case you could say that about the dozens of other rappers who garnered success after his death.

Remember the uprise of No Limit in 97 after BIG died?

That cleared the way for Cash Money which in turns gives life to the Young Money you hear today dominating the airwaves.

So it is what it is.

iunno.. Jay held his own with Big..
i dont think he wouldve been as "big"..

part of the reason he got to the heights he did was because the East Coast needed a counter for the West..
exact same reason Big was that dude though..

I don't think jay-z would be as popular or as beloved by people like he is now if big had died, I don't even think he'd have blown up if 2pac was still alive. Reasonable doubt is a classic but people get amnesia over the fact that that album went plat x amount of years later after his career really began to take off. The same thing with vol 1., that ish didn't go play out the gate, it was vol. 2 that really did it for him. Jay is extrememely talented but I always noticed that he didn't get the attention he desreved until after biggie and tupac passed. The rap game was looking for that next wave of stars and along came jay, x, ja rule, and they held it down for their time. But in regards to jay i think he'd be respected but not where he is now in his career
