Drinkwater should be there. Fuck Wilshere....not that he is not good but he's played 6 minutes of football in months.

Probably had to take atleast one Arsenal player haha

England will never win anything without an Arsenal player on the team.

The Player Barometer explained

Who is in form for the biggest football event of the year? Which players have been on fire this season and who is going to star this summer? Find out with the UEFA EURO 2016 Player Barometer.

What is it?

The UEFA EURO 2016 Player Barometer tracks players' form in the build-up to and during the tournament. The Barometer runs official player statistics through a specially designed algorithm to create rankings based on player performances.

Player data from qualifying formed the initial basis for the rankings, which have taken into account performances for club and country from 1 January 2016. This gives a unique and comprehensive evaluation of players' form when UEFA EURO 2016 kicks off, after which the Barometer will track which players are excelling in the tournament itself.

How it works

All players are assigned a primary position for which they are expected to play the majority of the time.

The player categories are defined as: goalkeepers, full-backs, central defenders, defensive midfielders, central midfielders, attacking midfielders, wingers and forwards.

The data considered for each player is specific to the position type. For example, tackles and interceptions are considered to be key statistics for defensive midfielders, while successful dribbles and crosses are core stats for wingers.

The algorithm uses player stats from all matches, club and national team, and updates after these matches are played. During UEFA EURO 2016, the rankings will update during every match.

Weighting

As the Barometer acts as a form tracker, the more recent the match, the higher the weighting assigned to the data from it i.e. player stats from yesterday are given more significance than those from last week. If a player is not active (e.g. due to injury or non-selection), his ranking will decrease over that period of inactivity.

Additional weighting is attributed for quality of opposition using UEFA coefficients as the foundation of the values.

Once UEFA EURO 2016 starts, statistical events (e.g. goals, assists, tackles, saves) for the 552 players will be given a significantly higher weighting to maintain an accurate ranking of those performing well in France.

England could have won everything and more with Drinkdrugs Drinkwater, but now they'll barely qualify for the Champions League.

Ey mane niggas goin' on like Drinkwater is Busquets man he played in a midfield that averaged less than 47% possession then went long at every opportunity

I don't have a problem with that at all but he can't be mad at not goin'.

People forget Drinkwater was partnered up in the centre with Kante who did most of the grunt work and still outshined him with his performances.

Watching a replay of ESPN FC and they were talking to Kasey Keller about what the goal should be for the US team. And he basically said to do good is ok but the main goal is to do good in World Cup qualifying. Why can't you do good in both?

i am always curious how they select players for the national teams.

are they selecting from a pool of citizens or best players from each good team or what

im on the border of france , germany and swiss....

shit was crazy here during the world cup....big screen and flat screen tvs everywhere outside....fireworks

Ight the manager of the national team picks the best 23 players from (or eligible to play for) that country.

Usin' France as an example,

Striker Giroud plays for Arsenal here in England. Midfielder Pogba plays for Juventus in Italy etc.

You can play for a country if you gain citizenship for it, so countries like France with a lotta African immigrants have African players in their side. The famous World Cup squad of 98 had mad Afrian players in it.

For a tournament, the manager selects a squad of 23. Usually based on the players' form over the past season, their past international form and their ability. Sometimes outside factors influence decisions (Benzema's omission from the French squad).

All squads have to have 3 'keepers, other than that, the manager can pick who he wants.

England's manager Roy Hodgson took 7 defenders, 8 midfielders and 5 strikers.

Of the 7 defenders, 4 are fall backs (two rightbacks, two leftback, and only 3 central defenders, which is risky because defenders get injured or sent off in tournaments all the time.

In midfield, we have a defensive midfielder, one winger, three central midfielders and three attacking midfielders.

Five strikers, all are different types of players.

The manager needs to take into account his own tactics when pickin' players and also likely events, you can't just pick the 23 players with the most ability coz you need subs and there are injuries etc

Also, once selected, players also have the opportunity to represent the country of their parents nationality.

Example, Kevin Prince Boateng was born in Germany to a Ghanaian pops & German mother. He got the opportunity to represent Ghana because of his father's nationality. His brother Jerome Boateng choose Germany. Jermaine jones for USA also in the same boat.

In reference to @CeLLaR-DooR explanation, Switzerland have a couple players in similar position to France, born outside the country but plays thru citizenship. Xherdan Shaqiri was born in Kosovo. Gain Swiss citizenship , and now plays for them. He could've also chosen Kosovo or Albania if wanted.
