Ruud Gullit has accused Jose Mourinho of turning the Premier League ugly - on the weekend his Chelsea side can clinch the title.
Former Blues’ boss Gullit says the sexy football he brought to Stamford Bridge has been replaced by a boring, win-at-all-costs cynicism that has brought Mourinho’s team into disrepute.
In an astonishing attack on the Special One, Gullit insists that Chelsea have the players to win championships AND entertain - but that Mourinho’s cautious mindset hasn’t changed since Roman Abramovich brought his first spell at the club to an end in 2007 for a lack of style.
Gullit said: “After a great, attractive first half of the season, Jose Mourinho put the handbrake on.
“His team IS boring when, in my opinion, the players he has deserve much better. Mourinho deserves his negative label because of the calculated way he makes Chelsea play.
“I find it astonishing, because his players are capable of brilliant football, as we saw on Wednesday for a brief moment when they were losing 1-0 at Leicester and were suddenly forced to put their foot on the accelerator.
“You could see their hunger to attack and the joy that playing like that brought to the players. They loved it. They were sparkling. Then, as soon as Chelsea were winning 2-1, Mourinho wanted to bring on Kurt Zouma, the defensive midfielder, to keep everything close up.
“When Zouma was waiting to come on, Chelsea scored a third goal, yet still the change was made to seal the victory. Why on earth did Mourinho do that when it was clear that his players wanted to keep attacking and demolish Leicester?
“It is because Mourinho hasn’t changed. He has forever got his hand on the handbrake.”
Gullit, who became the first foreign manager to win a trophy in England when he ended Chelsea’s 26-year wait for a major success by guiding them to the FA Cup in 1997, believes Mourinho has a duty to change his approach.
The Portuguese lifted two Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup in his first spell at the club, but was sacked by Abramovich for a lack of entertainment.
He has already won the Capital One Cup this season, and Chelsea will clinch the title on Sunday with a win at home against Crystal Palace.
Gullit said: “I can’t fault Chelsea when it comes to results and Mourinho is a top class coach.... but when you have this kind of quality in your squad, you must bring more attractive football.
“The lack of style cost Mourinho dearly in his first period at Chelsea and the same thing will happen again when he starts to get beaten with that defensive style.
“I only have to mention his Champions League adventure - Chelsea refused to kill off 10-man Paris Saint-Germain and paid for it big time.
“Mourinho keeps approaching every game as if it is a Champions League knock-out game. I can understand his ideas against Arsenal away, but not against Manchester United at home.
“It does not bother him one bit. He talks cynically and starts saying stuff that in future we will play without goals and that only ball possession will decide games.
“In the end it is a matter of taste. You either like it or not to win the Mourinho style.
“For me, it does not work. I really feel sorry for the players. They win, but in England every football fan says, ‘Yes, they win, but not in style’. Yet the players have so much quality.
"They could win almost every game in style if Mourinho was prepared to play with the handbrake off. You would see great football with lots of goals.”

There's no hate. Y'all just want to be blind to the obvious and feel some stupid way when people point that out. Explain losing to a ten man PSG side? Dont worry about it.
I'll take what Guillit has to say into consideration before somebody on here ijs.
Never once said they were boring but I do agree that playing cautious will only work for so long.

What are your thoughts on Van Gaal? Is the best yet to come? Or is his possession style doomed to fail in the BPL? They had 80% of possession today, and still lost. That's incredible. 65% against Everton and lost 3-0. 72% against Chelsea and lost too.
