Universal language is English.

Chinese jus became a world power.

I guess that's a big reason why. Or maybe if chinaman dem start bombing and taking over nations, making their language and tradition número uno

Mandarin is an extremely complex language though, English is pretty basic and generally pretty easy to learn... Bale learning abit of Spanish would get the supporters on his side, when he did that sentence at his signing the fans went crazy...

Idk how English is most spoken language when u factor a billion Chinese etc....

International language of business, plus everywhere I've been in the world people tend to know English. Even going to places like Tokyo and Paris (where the French are super protective over their language) the youngsters especially speak it without problem. The British education system really need to start pushing languages on kids, especially with the likes of the Chinese factor as you said. Unfortunately it does make Brits and Americans seem arrogant not learning languages and expecting everyone esle to speak English, but go abroad and people generally do. Bale still has no excuse not to pick up some half-decent Spanish by now.

You go to a team like RM and not learn the lingo....it creates divide...socially, I'm reading Bale is an outcast...this will seap into training and as you can see on the pitch also.

Bale young enough to have the ability to pick up the basics but imo he has been lazy.

British footballers are shit at playing abroad. Steve Macmanaman was one of the few to do it properly - he immersed himself in the Spanish culture and learnt the language. Michael Owen for example isolated himself and didn't bother - that alleged story how he hid himself in his hotel and asked people to send him British newspapers not knowing the shop across the road was selling them. Spanish as far as I understand it is generally phonetic and pretty easy to pick up so I'd like to know what Bale's excuse is.

I think this is one of the reasons that many English players don't go abroad. Most of them are in a comfort zone that they don't want to change anything about it and learning another language to most of them will break that comfort.

Yeah Macmanaman even had the hair (as does bale actually) haha Paul Ince did well to and obviously David Beckham... But the English players seem to struggle now, back in the day you got quite alot of Brits abroad...

Think about it, when the Brits went abroad to play, that when they had their best showing in international play.
