Last season I really tried to give MLS a look. I've been following the Galaxy and they were really good throughout the season and strong in the playoffs (first place in the West). Real Salt Lake came into the playoffs as the last place in the East with a losing record. Guess who met in the finals and guess who won the MLS championship. ON A PENALTY SHOOTOUT!!!! I was mad as hell.

haha savage... i hate the american commentary as well, when becks went to the galaxy they showed couple games, i was cracking up at some of the terms they used lmao sounded like they were mixing all the american sports into one sport lol

Maradona's European representative Walter Soriano claims the 49-year-old is in talks with a number of clubs over a possible move to Europe.

The controversial former Napoli star left his role as Argentina coach last month after his side crashed out in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Maradona's reputation in England will be forever tarnished by his 'Hand of God' goal against the Three Lions at the 1986 World Cup, but Soriano insists his client would be open to an approach from Villa owner Randy Lerner.

He told the Sunday Mercury: "I think Diego would be very open to the idea of coming to England and managing Aston Villa.

"He is very attracted to English football and the way of life in your country and I know he would be very willing to move there.

"He loves the English countryside and your respect for privacy, so he would be very happy there, especially at a big club like Aston Villa.

"If the owner Randy Lerner wants to make him a serious offer, I am sure he would get a very positive response.

"Diego is currently talking with a number of clubs in Europe - including another one in England - about a management role and is looking at his options carefully."

Lerner is seeking a new permanent manager at Villa Park after Martin O'Neill quit just days before the start of the new Premier League season.

Kevin MacDonald was in caretaker charge as Villa began the new campaign with a convincing 3-0 win against West Ham.

Nicolas Anelka's profanity-laced tirade at the World Cup may have been his last act in a France national team football shirt.

The Chelsea striker was suspended by the French Football Federation for 18 matches Tuesday for his role in the fiasco that marred France's World Cup campaign, a ban that is expected to last for nearly two years. By the time the 2012 European Championship comes around, Anelka will be 33 years old and may be too old to make the team - if they qualify.

Anelka was one of five players called before the FFF's disciplinary commission, which also handed former captain Patrice Evra a five-match ban, Franck Ribery a three-match ban and Jeremy Toulalan a one-match suspension. The players can appeal.

Eric Abidal, the fifth player summoned to the four-hour hearing, escaped any sanctions.

''They (the players) are a bit bruised by the way things unfolded,'' said Jean Mazzella, the president of the disciplinary commission. ''They didn't think it would take on the proportions that it has, that's for sure.''

All 23 players on France's World Cup squad boycotted a training session in South Africa to protest Anelka's expulsion after he insulted then-coach Raymond Domenech during a 2-0 loss to Mexico.

But the French federation only summoned the five players who played a leading role in the mutiny. Ribery and Anelka - whose dressing-room rage triggered the strike - sent lawyers. Ribery, who was vice captain at the World Cup, did not attend the hearing because Bayern Munich refused to release him ahead of its opening Bundesliga match on Friday against Wolfsburg.

Only Evra, Abidal and Toulalan showed up at the hearing, federation official Yann Le Guillard said. And former France team director Jean-Louis Valentin said they appeared to regret their actions.

''The players seemed sincerely sorry for what happened,'' said Valentin, who resigned when the players refused to take part in a training session and, instead, sat in the team bus under the eye of cameras from around the world. ''I felt they were very affected by that event.

''It's obvious that if they had to do it again, they wouldn't do it,'' Valentin said.

Domenech was among those who attended Tuesday's hearing, along with then-FFF president Jean-Pierre Escalettes and assistant coach Alain Boghossian.

Valentin, who attended the hearing as a witness and was the only one to comment later, expressed a clear measure of sympathy for what he said where chastened players. As far as he is concerned, he said, ''everybody has the right to a second chance.''

He said that dialogue within the group called to testify was ''excellent'' and that Domenech was ''dignified.''

''We talked again about the events. In some ways, there was a very good dialogue that was, at times, moving,'' Valentin said. ''Everybody was aware that there was a collective mess-up, and now we have to turn the page and move on.''

France was eliminated after the first round of the World Cup without winning a match. But it was the players' actions, including the squad's sit-in on the team bus, that horrified the French public and drew condemnation from President Nicolas Sarkozy and other political leaders.

''The players must have pride in the French colors, and think of all the young people who are training to become football players,'' Mazzella said. ''That's important.''

Since returning from South Africa, Anelka has complained that he was upset with Domenech for playing him out of position. He also said he thought of quitting the team before the World Cup but stayed because several teammates asked him to remain with the squad.

The players have already been punished financially, with the federation withholding their World Cup bonuses. Hardliners like Lilian Thuram, a former international and a member of the FFF council, even said Evra should never play for France again.

France coach Laurent Blanc who wanted to move on after having dropped all 23 players for his first match in charge last week - a 2-1 loss to Norway in a friendly - will miss Anelka, Evra, Ribery and Toulalan for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Belarus in September.

''Those sanctions are weakening the future of the France team,'' said Rudi Garcia, the Lille coach. ''We need to again find a conquering France team with all its assets.

''Laurent Blanc himself said that we shouldn't shoot ourselves in the foot. Well, there are a few toes hurt.''

Nasri out a month already...here we go...I wish RVP could have his injury this early on too...But seriously they let him back on the field with that injury? Our medical staff is shit...I guess the rumors about Ben Arfa and Honda earlier this week are because they knew Nasri was out? We have to play Djourou who has already been hurt in pre-season and its only the second week and now we are being linked with Squilacci which is better than nothing...

Another day, another injury. Frimpong who was really coming along, and was one of the reasons we didn't get another defensive mid, is out for the year. Hope our future Essien gets back soon...fuck

Sam Hutchinson has announced his retirement as a professional footballer.

Unfortunately the 21-year-old defender suffered a reoccurrence of the knee injury that affected his past three seasons and it is has been decided he will not recover sufficiently for the physical demands of a professional career.

Hutchinson will continue to be supported by Chelsea Football Club and will work in our Academy while also studying sports science at university. He will later pursue coaching qualifications.

He made his first-team debut as a substitute in the final league game of the 2006/07 season and was part of the first team pre-season visit to the United States that followed. Then-manager José Mourinho spoke about him as a future permanent member of the Chelsea squad.

Comfortable at full-back or in central-defence, Hutchinson was expected to make rapid progress but after just five reserve games in 2007/08, the knee problems began and brought the season to a halt.

Further recovery time was needed in the middle section of 2008/09, limiting Sam to six games for the reserves, a side which he had captained.

He joined Chelsea at the age of nine and developed into an England Under-19 international. He received an England Under 21 call-up but withdrew to manage his injury, a process that looked to be paying dividends when Hutchinson rejoined the first team squad for the pre-season tour of the US in 2009.

Last season he played as a sub against Fulham in August, started against QPR in the Carling Cup, before in April, coming on in the 7-0 home win over Stoke and crossing for Frank Lampard's goal.

In total Hutchinson started one game for Chelsea and made three sub appearances. Chelsea Football Club thanks him for his on-pitch contribution and wishes him well in his future work with the club.

Gallas jumping ship to Tottenham?

Great defender but a poor fitness rate and a proper bad attitude. Can't say I'm that bothered to be honest, he probably on signed for Spurs just to try and piss Arsenal off. We've apparently put in a bid for Squillaci anyway... so yeah, whatever. Good for him
