That is the first time I seen Troy Polamalu and overrated in the same sentence, and probably the last.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Overrated: S Troy Polamalu. Yes, he has been hurt. But that helps bring down his rating. Even when he has been on the field, he hasn't been as good as his reputation.

Well maybe overrated is the wrong term to use here.
He's good but don't think he's the best safety in league. I also prefer the Ed Reed & Sean Taylor(RIP) types myself.

Good player but not as great as reputation and seems often injured but he's probably the best safety outside of Ed Reed right now.

Why did you leave out that Tyvon Branch was voted the NFL's most underrated player and Brandon Jacobs was voted the most overrated? I read that article a few days ago.

New York Giants
Overrated: Jacobs. He talks a big game, but he was a disappointment.

Underrated: CB Terrell Thomas. The Giants had injuries at the position and Thomas stepped in and played really well. He should keep his job this season, even with Corey Webster and Aaron Ross healthy again.

its on there

No, I mean, you left out this part:

Overrated.

The word isn't very nice, but let's face it: There are a lot of things overrated.

There's sushi, the first snow, New Year's Eve, Bruce Springsteen, Julia Roberts and dark beers.

Oh, and plenty of NFL football players.

By contrast, there are also a lot of underrated things. Some of them are: The first bite of pizza, a hot shower, a cold beer after a round of golf and tree-ripe peaches.
Oh, and plenty of NFL football players.

You guessed it. It's time again for my annual list of the NFL's overrated and underrated players.

I've picked one player in each category from each team. And there's a league-wide winner -- or loser, I guess, if you're the overrated player -- from each category.

The league's most underrated player is Oakland Raiders safety Tyvon Branch. Haven't seen him? Many haven't. But he's the real thing.

Branch had 124 tackles last season in his second year, his first as a starter. That was more than any other safety. He finished 10th in the league in tackles. He didn't have an interception, but he did have eight passes defensed and had eight tackles behind the line, a sack and two forced fumbles.

Branch recently turned 23, so he has a lot of good years in front of him. I like finding young safeties with Pro Bowl potential. When I first started this, Arizona's Adrian Wilson was one of my underrated guys. He has been a Pro Bowl player the past couple of seasons.

My most overrated player is New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs. Even after 1,000-yard seasons in 2007 and 2008, I thought he was a bit overrated. People became enamored with his size since he is huge for a back at 6-feet-4 and 265 pounds.

But I think his size hurts him. He doesn't make tacklers miss. If there is no hole, he isn't cutting to find one. He runs straight ahead and upright, not my style of back.

Jacobs gained 3.7 yards per rush last season and wound up with 835 yards. He seemed to tiptoe into the line. His touchdown total dropped from 15 to six. Some of it might have been the result of a knee issue that required scoping after the season, but I think the Giants offense is significantly better when Ahmad Bradshaw, all 5-9 of him, is in the backfield.

Bradshaw gained 4.8 yards per carry last season. He is much more explosive and can make people miss.

Running over people the way Jacobs does sometimes will get you on highlight shows. But it's not the way to run.

It's the way to earn an overrated label. He's this year's overall winner.

Welcome to the club. Brangelina, Avatar and Ben Stiller welcome you.

Here's the rest of the list:

i left all that out because you can only use so many characters per post and i just didn't feel like it b/c it named his picks in the main part of the article

Oh ok. I dig it. It just goes into more detail about why both players earned their spots as the league-wide most over/underrated player. Most folks overlook Tyvon like a muhfucka so it was nice to see him get some shine. Did you see when he decked that 300 pound FB?

Even if he's the 2nd best safety in the league, that makes him a beast though. I may take Troy over Reed...feel like he helps with the run more. He's not hurt real often either...just kept gettin banged up last year. Goin by this logic though, Bob Sanders shoulda been the overrated player for the Colts easy.

I agree that Daryl Smith is underrated but Mathis isnt overrated, I wouldn't say hes an elite corner but he plays good for the jags.

THIS

With Asante Samuel.. the gambles that he takes kinda made him the corner that he is....when you play like that...you either live or die by it..so its a 50/50 chance that you are the hero...or the nigga that fucked up.....

When you look and Rod Woodson or Deon Sanders, what makes them stand is interceptions. Although Barber did not have as many Int's, he was still an outstanding INT returner. One of the pieces overlooked is Ronde Barber's forced fumbles. The article is incorrect about Barber having only 11 FF. They got there stats off of the NFL apparently because the website is missing some of the stats form 1997 through 2000. A turn over is a turnover it being intercepted or it being a forced fumble and the number of turnovers that Barbers has produced puts him a lot closer to Sanders at least in the turnover category. Barber has 37 interceptions and 14 forced fumbles. Sanders has 53 Interceptions and 5 FF. Plus Barber has 25 sacks to Sanders 13.

The CB's job is to cover receivers and prevent scoring. Sanders and Barber where both great cover guys, but Barber was much better at preventing scoring than Sanders was because Barber could make big stops and make a tackle to prevent scoring or or more offensive yardage and Sanders couldn't tackle to save is life. Sanders allowed scoring and offensive ball movement by is inability to make a stop. There is more to being an impact player than just covering a receiver and making picks and tackling is a BIG part of it. I believe that Barber overall, did a lot more for the Buccaneers as a CB than Sanders ever did for Dallas or anyone else as a corner. Ronde Barber is just a more complete player as a corner back who thrived in the cover 2 scheme, but has always played well in man on man situations. I will not compare Barber to Woodson because Woodson was the best, but Barber should be a Hall of Famer before Sanders should even be considered

.

Barber is not at the top of any one category except Sacks allowing him to easily be overlooked, but overall, he is one of the best to ever play accumulating all his stats and what he does on the football field as a whole. One of the most complete CB to ever play. I believe is WAY underrated.

the fact that Ronde Barber was in a position to break up passes, intercept them, or prevent scores further proves he's not close to Deion because it means that teams were actually throwing to the receiver that Barber was covering
