Finally a good thread.Both classic albums

I'll give the slight edge to Midnight Marauders cuz of the production and some of my favorite tribe songs are on that album

Low End theory is super tight tho.Show business,butter,verses from the abstract,what,buggin out,scenario,jazz,excursions and check the rhyme are all raw

Tribe dropped 2 of the greatest hip hop albums of all time in 91 and 93

Both classics. I prefer the low end theory but I can see the argument for MM. To me this is kind of like ATLiens vs Aquemini, it's really more about preference because both are classics and both have different strengths...

I pretty much agree with this. I wouldn't say either of them are "weaker". Half of the time when you're comparing albums like this it just depends on the day of the week. I'm leaning for MM

Midnight Marauders... Low End Theory is a perfect album, a real game changer productionwise. But MM was a bigger game changer as it introduced, or at least popularized chopping samples rather than just looping them, using samples as backing harmonies, etc... so many techniques were used in making that album. Q Tip was/is a genius behind the boards. Listen to Midnight, then listen to the original sample... the chops are insane... still tryna figure it out.

To argue for Low End Theory... mind you, this is pre Nas/Big/Wu era. The only wild nice dudes was Rakim, Kane and G Rap. No one was seeing these cats... NO ONE. Everything was pretty much standard ABC. That being said, Phife and Tip went the fuck OFF. Phife's verse in Buggin Out was insane. They were more concentrated lyrically. The content on that album was untouched at the time. And again, the production was ahead of its time. Plus, Busta's verse on Scenario>>>>>>>>>>

Theyre both A-1 but MM shows progression as far as mcs / producers trying to perfect their craft. They turned me on to 60's and 70's jazz through their production.

The time tip spent digging in the crates for these sampling jewels mustve been massive. He deserves credit for that alone i've heard he's a true record fiend. Definately a sampling beast.

Midnight marauders. This cd is classic.well both are. But this one was like somethin to meditate to and just sit back and cruise around wit ya girl to. Damn I miss those days.

Damn I love the shit outta both albums, but I'll give MM the slight edge. I think the production on there was slightly more polished. I like Instinctive rhythms too. Tribes first three albums we're classics.

Can't forget about Peoples instinctive travels tho. Tribe's first 3 albums are all classic maybe the best 3 consecutive albums in rap by one artist.
