TRUST ME i know (and i bet you do too) i know so many cats niggas who ain't hard or tough at all but they've sold drugs. With Snoop the dude who invested and created his image was C-Styles, who also is from Long Beach. You can catch him in alot of Snoop's videos back in the day. Same thing with Jay-Z, Jeezy etc etc.
That's how they get "credible". It's because of these real gangstas or whatever invest in them and create an image for 'em. Now i could care less about these gangsta dudes cuz they not doing no good in the community but truth is truth.
you're over analyzing this in every way possible ... your logic applies to each and every human soul that has ever lived in the hood. EVERYBODY WENT TO CHURCH. if you were muslim you went to the mosque. there is a very very small minority that just didnt have any religion etc.
what im getting at is why to be from the hood or to live up to the image of your raps, you have to be this person who was born and left on the door step for dead, thrown into a back room where you managed to crawl to a baby bottle until you were old enuff to sell drugs?? jay z and snoop and other rappers were not created images like vanilla ice or snow. everybody has a person who they piggy back off of, that puts them on to the ways of the hood etc etc. for your logic to make sense, you would also have to say that someone sat there and said " ok lets find some guy, turn him into the hardest gangsta who ever walked thru long beach, introduce him to dre, and have him start writing raps ... HE SHOULD BLOW UP AND WE GONNA GET PAID!!"
i always envisioned these rappers as regular guys from the hood who can rap, came from a broken home etc etc just like everybody else and that is what made people relate to them. i never thought they were these tookie williams monsters who would shoot and kill anyone in an instant. im sure they had family members that loved them and had aunt and uncles and had family reunion cookouts just like everyone else
your view point reminds me of white kids who get interviewed in hip hop documentaries. they dont relate to rap music in alot of ways, but they are curious to know about drive by's, what its like to not have both parents etc etc
credibility doesnt always lie in how much of a criminal you were or how hard you had it. fact is snoop is from long beach ... and long beach is not beverly hills. jay z is from brooklyn and brooklyn is not shady springs florida.
the reason why i believe a good amount of rappers are who they say they are is because they dont claim to be anything out of the ordinary. you're confusing the braggadicio aspect of rap with the credibility factor. if snoop says he fucks atleast 3 dime pieces a night ... i know he's just saying it for the sake of the rap LOL i dont take it literally. im from the hood just like him so i know there's not even a whole lot of dimes to choose from let alone having 3 in constant rotation
you're over analyzing it cuzzin
that is not realistic
