SS: Black people love Italian gangster movies, but many of these films are blatant in their racism. One of the very first words Jack Nicholson says in Martin Scorsese’s The Departed is ‘n$#%@.’ Why are people willing to overlook this?

JZ: There are certain things the audience hooks on to. Yes, the character might be racist, but he’s still against the odds as he struggles against the world. However brief his rein might be, he’s living the good life and that’s what Black kids hone in on. They don’t pay attention to the racism, because racism is everywhere. We’ve learned to look past that.

SS: What about the word using the “N” word in rhymes?

JZ: For me, it’s all about the intention. I could call you an ‘apple tree,’ but if I say it with venom and hate, that is what it’s about. It’s not the word that has the power, it’s the person. All of this came about because the Imus discussion turned into a hip-hop discussion.Imus couldn’t name three rappers; well, maybe he could, but he couldn’t name their songs. Imus doesn’t listen to rap, so he’s not influenced by it. He didn’t get that from us. I missed the point the discussion stopped being about Imus

ON THE DECLINE OF NYC HIP-HOPSS: Listening to the American Gangster, I kept thinking that this is also a great New York City album. Do you think the city has fallen off in terms of rap music?

JZ: Of course, but it was bound to happen, because we were spoiled. Not only did we own rap music since its inception, we also invented it. But, like anything else if you take it for granted, it will leave you. It will absolutely go to where the freshness is. New York started making robotic records. Down south, rap music is a celebration. They put their heart and soul into it.

SS: The song ‘Ignorant S%$#t’ touches on this subject. There are more curses and crime in a Tarantino movie, but nobody is dragging him off to a congressional hearing.

JZ: If rappers stop cursing tomorrow, is that going to fix the ghetto or the fact that our schools are f$#%-up and the living-conditions are terrible. You can’t tell me not to say $#@# or s%$#, that’s ridiculous to me. Is that really the problem? Are you serious? Some people don’t understand the things people who live in these urban areas see in one day; and, that’s every single day.

Ion een like Jay-Z...But this is stupid...This shit is from 2007 when Imus said the "Nappy Headed Hoes" shit...How y'all relate this to him capin for V-Nasty is beyond me, and beyond lame...But I agree wit what he said though...A word can never have more power than a person...And if you let it, you're weak.

MUMO X,

Why is it cool for Amy Winehouse on video to make up a song, singing “Blacks, Pakis, Gooks and Nips, Gooks and Nips"! Yet she gets your full support with a SIG devoted. I guess its all good if Nas cosigns her.

I thought the same exact shit. Goes to show that these dudes dont really care what these rappers do in regard to positive black upliftment or perception. They more concerned with finding ammo to use against rap strangers they dislike. Shits sad. We got too many followers. Too many hunched over because they have no backbone.

there's white people who say nigger with intentions to be racist, then there's white people who say nigga because of hip hop culture. there's white people that love the culture and everything it brings to the table. the music, fasion, dancing, and the vocabulary which includes the word "nigga". as black people we expect these white people to adopt everything from hip hip culture except for the use of the n word. thats retarded on our part.granted i believe they shouldnt also, but the bottom line is they do. nigga does not have the same meaning to this generation it had decades ago. hell cube himself said him and his friends used nigga around eachother to take away its power and let white people know the word doesnt affect them

nowhere in that interview did jay flat out say "its cool for a white person to call me nigga/er". yet nas flat out said its cool for a white person to call him a nigga if thats his friend and to my surprise, no outrage. there's black people who actually let whites call them nigga if they're friends. I would never allow my white friends to call me that, but then i again i wont beat the shit out of them if they do.i'll just let em know i dont know what your other black friends let you do,, but dont say that shit around me

"And they say it's the white man I should fear

I wuz mad pissed at amy for that, but imo she always supported our hiphop culture while black women like oprah looked down upon us, and used all means necessary to shit on rappers.

the question fam is, who do i trust and vouch for as a conscious brother??

John lennon or Jay Z

Maradona or Jordan?

obama or hugo chavez???

Lol i can't believe yall fell for this bullshit LMAO!!!! No where in that bolded did he say that its okay for white to call him a nigga. But he did make two valid points.

1. The power is not in the word its in the person. For too long we have let a word get us all bent out of shape. Its 2011 and black people are losing jobs and getting thrown in jail why??? HE CALLED ME A NIGGER. We are the only race that lets ONE FUCKIN WORD still define us. All the other races have negative slang terms but you don't see them coming running and marching EVERYTIME the word is said. The true definition of nigger is IGNORANT.....not black!! So IMO the people that still use the word are NIGGERS.....not me.

2. When Imus called them players nappy headed hoes, media pointed to finger DIRECTLY at hip hop and said "they say it!!!!" What Jay was REALLY saying in that article how in the fuck can Imus say he got that from us when can't even name three hip hop songs???? He didn't get that from hip hop, he got that from trying to be slick with his words and got caught.

Because of yall personal opinions of Jay yall totally missed the boat on what he was trying to say so do your homework nexttime before your start labeing people.
