The Visit - 7/10

Shyamalan has moderately redeemed himself after a series of disasters. It's more thriller/comedy than horror but there are a handful of genuinely creepy scenes. Slow pacing, but the tone that something is very "off" makes the film interesting even while nothing is actually occurring. In that aspect (and only that aspect) it reminded me of Rosemary's Baby. Both directors managed to load seemingly harmless events with tension and foreboding. That's the part I appreciated the most. I also appreciated that the twist this time wasn't something totally off the wall, i.e. he didn't try too hard. It was a perfectly respectable twist within the realm of normalcy while still being slightly shocking.

The only negatives are that it's got slow pacing in the first act, but it does pick up considerably about 30-40 minutes in. Also the found footage gimmick is beyond tired at this point, but the utilization of it is slightly smarter than some other films I can recall.

Bonus pts for the funny as hell son Ed Oxenbould. Aside from the seriously creepy grandparents he makes the film. The daughter is a decent actress as well , but the son got all of the funny material.

All in all Shyamalan has nothing to be ashamed of this time around. I may just go and see it again .

in a spoiler, can you tell me if the grandparents die, or if it was all the kids imagination? or was there a usual shamalamadfakjl twist at the end

Spoiler free:

Yes there is a twist ending but nothing super ridiculous or silly like he's been known to do. It's a perfectly credible twist (no not all in the kids imagination)

@huey

*Here be full spoilers*

Those aren't the real grandparents. The real grandparents are dead in the basement. The mother was estranged from her parents so the fake couple reached out to her and she agreed to send the children, but didn't speak to the fake parents directly to know they weren't her real parents. She Skyped with the kids throughout the movie to check up on them but circumstances (which I won't get into here) made it to where she didn't see the imposters through videochat until the final act.

Finally watched casino royale ....I've had it unopened for yrs it was definitely a great bond flick ..I slept on it ....but its not better than skyfall imo as I've seen some ppl say ...as of right now skyfall>>> casino royale >>>>> quantum of solace....

Its just something about the opening of skyfall with the Adele led skyfall song that was epic(which she killed) ...but royale is def a 8/10 bond film

Jus binged Hannibal season 2 on Netflix. Even better than I remembered. Looks amazing, great acting, awesome plot/story telling and Mads and Michael Pitt killed their roles.

Watched The Bastard Executioner premeire on FX. It tries it's best to be the next Game of Thrones, but it's not even close to Vikings.

Black or White starring Kevin Costner, Bill Burr, Jillian Estell, Octavia Spencer, Andre Holland, & Anthony Mackie. Costner stars as a just widowed grandfather to a bi-racial 7 year old girl who's in a custody battle with the girl's grandmother from the other side of the family. (The girl's mother died during childbirth and the father is a crackhead who doesn't really want anything to do with his daughter) Never heard of Jillian Estell before this movie but damn she stole the show, she's gotta bright future if she stays with acting. I liked it. 7/10.

The Aviator -. Completed all the 5 DiCaprio/Scorsese collabos in the space of 3 months (all caught on cable/TV and HD quality). Epic is the word I'd use to describe this film. Costumes, production design, cinematography. It captures that 1920's through the 1940's era. You can call it a periodic Noir flick. The flying scenes were expertly shot even the crashes

The story of a totally flawed rich genius who at a very young age and when technology was still in advancement building and flying aeroplanes around the world but had serious Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) regarding hygiene and paranoia with imaginary enemies

Fun fact. The greenery here (trees, grass, plants) were all bleached to a neon kinda 'green'. Another understated Scorsese classic

Horrible Bosses 2 - funny for what it was but I was more impressed with the producers getting a host of Oscar winners to cameo (Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey and Christoph Waltz) and just fool around. Was decent. 3/5

Man please outside of dudes who played snoop, suge and ren they all believably looked like who played. Only problem with suge was that the actor was short...dude playing snoop looked nothing like him but he had the voice. Dude playing ren is a good actor but he looked too old. Other than that the casting was great.
