Happy New Year Everyone. Loving all the new entries and will check some of them out. I basically have a lot of reviews to put up since I last was up here. Check them out:

(GRADE = C +) After basically taking 10 years off from Hollywood after the historic success of the Iconic Matrix Trilogy. Keanu has only acting in some small films and even directed "Man of Tai Chi". Well Neo is back, but this time in Japan. "47 Ronin" is the historical fantasy film about the story of the Legendary Samurai who saught revenge for their master's death. Keanu plays a half-breed outcast who is brought into the group to help. I thought the movie wasn't as bad as critics said but it did have flaws. The fantasy elements kinda took it out of the historical realm but they didn't hurt the movie. Keanu fight skills are still sharp 10 years after the Matrix. Also I'm happy to report there was not "White Savoir" complex as the Japanese actors did get the shine in the film. Overall decent, not great but entertaining.

(GRADE = B +) Neil Broomkap who directed the cult sci-fi Classic "District 9" is back for his 2nd film "Elysium" which stars Matt Damon and Jody Foster. Far into the Future the rich and poor are separated. The Rich stay on a resort like space station orbiting earth called "Elysium". There they can live free of any disease as they have the technology to cure anything. Meanwhile everyone else works on a polluted Earth being controlled by A.I. I have to say I was very impressed with this film. 1st the action and effects were to notch. Matt Damon played a great lead in this and Jodi was a very good villain. Loved the themes also as it dealt with Health care, immigration, Class warfare etc. So I wouldn't put it over "District 9" but it was a very solid follow up. In a year full of sci-fi films, this one really stood out the most to me.

220px-Mandela_-_Long_Walk_to_Freedom_poster.jpg

(GRADE = C+) With the sad passing of Mandela this movie actually came out at the right time. This film stars Idris Elba in the title role as Mandela. It basically shows his whole life from childhood to adulthood. Showed his entire time in Prison and ends with his political career as President. I thought the movie was very imformative and again Idris killed it but the flaws were in the pacing and directing. Also they tired to fit so much in to 2 hours when a proper Mandela film should of been like 3 hours like "Malcolm X". Overall it was still a good movie and again If you want a cliff notes version of Mandela life, this is good to give a chance.

220px-12_Years_a_Slave_film_poster.jpg

(GRADE = A +) As everyone knows I was very critical of "Django Unchained" cause I felt it was a little cartoonish for the Slavery Subject Matter. Reguardless I can Admit that Django was still a very well acting film and had it's moments. But "12 Years a Slave" blows Django out of the water. This was probably the best Slavery film I've ever seen. The film was directed by Steve Mcqueen and it stars Chitwell Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender. The movies puts slavery in a context that even the Legendary "Roots" missed out on. The story is about a Free Intelligent Black Man from New York who is kidnapped into Slavery for over a decade. The movie showed the slave trade and the horrors of the South like no other. The acting in this film was top notch. This movie better sweep the Oscars, it was that good. Touched my Soul. I like that we saw a Slavery film that showed a Black man as being smarter than his "White" Masters. It was just a power image instead of the typical "Dumb" Slave narrative we always see. Fassbender was amazing, now that's how you play a slave Master. Lupita Nyong'o was great. Overall this is a must see and I hope they eventually show it in History Class in the future.

The_Hobbit_-_The_Desolation_of_Smaug_theatrical_poster.jpg

(GRADE = B) Peter Jackson is back with the 2nd film in his "Lord of the Rings" Prequel series, "The Hobbit" called "The Desolation of Smaug". I gave Hobbit 1 "An Unexpected Journey" as C in my past reviews. This was a huge step in the right direction. 1st they up the action on this. Orlando Bloom returns as Leglos and he steals the movie with some amazing bow and arrow and fighting action. Our heroes are still on their previous journey to get to the top of the mountain and reclaim the kingdom of the Dwarfs but they run into some unexpected enemies in the Forrest. Again I can honestly say I enjoyed the movie. The Conversation with Smaug was good also. The Cliffhanger ending was done well too.

(GRADE = B) Hollywood IT-GIRL Jennifer Lawrence is back in the sequel to the blockbuster film and bestselling book series "The Hunger Games". The 1st film I only thought was OK as I gave it a C-grade. This film was a huge step in the right direction. It was darker than the 1st, they didn't over do it with the Love Triangle though it was there. The 1st movie felt like Twilight with Bow and Arrows but this film was like a dark hardcore sci-fi film from back in the day. The movie themes about rebelling against the system actually took the film out of typical Hollywood teen film to an again serious sci-fi film. The story this time finds Kaitniss after winning the Hunger Games on tour with her fake lover going from district to district. As she visits she finds out she's the inspiration for the rebellion. The Powers that be then decide to kill her and they put her in an All-Star Hunger Games with Past winners. It has a cliffhanger ending but it didn't ruin the movie. Again I give props where props is due, it was as solid sequel.

Both Hobbit 2 and Hungers Games 2 had Cliffhanger endings to set up the the rest of the Trilogy. This was famously done in "Empire Strikes Back" but it seems when you watch these films, they actually took from "The Matrix Reloaded" by cutting to Black at the least expected time.

(GRADE = A) The Legendary Martin Scorsese is back to his old ways with the Wall St Dramedy "Wolf of Wall St" staring none other than Leonardo Dicaprio. This is the 5th film they have done together after (Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed and Shutter Island). The film is based on the real life wall street broker Jordan Belforts. It also stars Johan Hill. This movie was vintage Scorsese. We are talking a lot of drugs, a lot of Sex and a lot of money. But behind it all there was a powerful message. In 87 during Michael Douglas Oscar Winning role for "Wall St", his character Gordan said "Greed is Good" well the "Wolf of Wall St" challenges that notion. I think this was easily one of Leo's best roles. Even though he was a Wall St Scumbag you went with him on this journey. It was about 3 hours long but you really didn't feel it. Overall Loved it and I can honestly say Leo and Martin have never made a bad movie.

History of WWF 1995 - Kevin Nash. No idea if any/all of it's true, but it's entertaining as hell.

Princess Jellyfish. Anime. Plays out a little like a Korean drama. Enjoyable, but it's only one season so nothing is wrapped up and it's slow as hell.

Supercop. Always enjoyed this. One of my favorites from Jackie Chan. Great fights but nothing touching the Police Story 2 playground scene.

Spaceballs. Don't like this as much as I remember. Happens with a lot of 80s stuff. Long boring moments. Was on when they had the comedy going though.

Highlander. Not holding up at all for me.

Escape From Alcatraz. Boring. Not tense at all because Eastwood just can't fuck up even a little bit.

Joe Kidd. A pass unless you really like watching Eastwood. Not a whole lot gets done by anybody else.

King of the Beggars. Like this one. Good comedy. Wished it had longer/more fighting scenes though.
