They got captain cold exactly right. Its literally the characterization from the comic books. Did geoff johns write this episode?

Yes, him and Greg Berlanti writes both shows. The reason behind the consistency with the comics is Geoff John's which is GOAT. Smallville sucked cause they were trying to create something gay and different from the comics.

Just watching

Got dayum @ this ep & GOT DAYUM @ Felicity think I'm in love

im starting to think that harrison wells may be

RipHunter.jpg

Rip Hunter. Hes clearly a time traveler. Harrison Wells - H wells or HG Wells, who wrote the time machine. And Rip is DCs most famous time traveler. He is doing something to make sure that barry becomes the flash, after eddie thawne went back in time to prevent Barry from ever being. And if rip hunter is here, so is booster gold somewhere.

Broddie can probably answer that better but even if not, still doesn't mean it couldn't be him. Everything just seems to me like they're going in that direction. Much more likely than him being Jay garrick or something.

Broddie suggested it was
Hunter Zolomon

It would be extremely out of character though. I know it's an adaptation and liberties are taken but I don't see especially Geoff Johns allowing something like that after he helped build that character back up as very heroic with 52 and the early issues of the Booster Gold series.

I have a theory that I posted weeks ago but I guess you missed it

Eddie Thawne is clearly based on Hunter Zolomon which for anybody who doesn't read comic books was Wally West's Reverse Flash. Down to being a cop with keystone city origins. my hunch is that he is an ancestor of Eobard Thawne (Barry Allen's Reverse Flash) in this continuity.

Maybe when Grodd shows up he will still end up paralyzed and then become a reverse flash like Zolomon in the comic. But I do see him as a red herring in the sense that he won't be the reverse flash who killed Nora Allen.

That could still be Eobard Thawne speed force obsessed scientist and Flash fanboy from the future who is now a descendant of Eddie. Except this time he's taken the alias Harrison Wells to throw the fanbase off. The same way that instead of Dinah Laurel Lance being the Black Canary in the Arrow show they made up a sister for her to carry that mantle which threw expectations off and kept fans on their toes.

As to why Eobard will travel back in time and pull off an elaborate scheme? that is a question I've seen a lot of people ask and one that shouldn't be hard to answer if they read comic books; that is part of his MO. He has tried to secure the past to ensure his own future many times. If the Flash doesn't exist neither does Professor Zoom.

In this case he likely needed to ensure that flash becomes who he becomes so that the speed force could exist and therefore the negative force will eventually manifest by proxy and he could tap into it. Only real problem I have with that is the whole contrived archnemesis creates the hero trope. But I could deal with that it's been done enough in many media adaptations that it doesn't even surprise me anymore so I just deal with it.

It's just the only thing that makes sense besides making him a future Barry who backs his agenda by any means necessary like in the current arc in the comic books.

then over at superherohype somebody posted this in response to my theory there. Apparently they found this post over at comicbookmovie but the bold seems very interesting

And Wells I am pretty confident is the Reverse Flash...he went back in time to kill Barry's mom but when he did it there was a time warp and it took his powers from him since it cut him off of the negative Speed Force because Barry hadn't become The Flash yet to make the regular Speed Force for Thawne to siphon off of yet....so he stays in the present and becomes a great scientist with his knowledge of future tech and tries to make sure Barry becomes The Flash so that he can become The Reverse Flash make the negative Speed Force and go back to his timeline.

All of this was in The Flash movie script by Greg Berlanti and it seems like they're borrowing a lot from that here with this show so it wouldn't surprise me if it plays out here like it was supposed to in the movie but much slower and more drawn out because it's a TV show.

Now I never read Berlanti's Flash movie script. I just deduced this based on reading the Flash comic books for over 2 decades and looking at it from the creative writing perspective & how it would be a very logical way to adapt that angle. Going to be interesting where it really ends up in the end.

Eobard Thawne actually. I still think the Hunter Zolomon storyline will be saved for Eddie Thawne to disintiguish Professor Zoom (Eobard) from Zoom (Hunter in the comic). Just with tweaks like replacing Hunter's wife with Iris instead. Just like they plan to adapt the Wally/Linda Park romance with Barry and Linda instead.

Look how far weve come

If you would've told me I would see a Flash TV show on this level 5 years ago I would've called you a mad man.

E2S, does he kill in the comics?

Nah not really. He's done dark stuff to an extent but not on the level of nonchalantly commiting cold blooded murder.

I still firmly believe he'll be Professor Zoom. Especially since Berlanti is the show runner and I now know that that's pretty much exactly how the script for his cancelled Flash movie project played out. Besides his entire demeanor when he enters creep mode screams Eobard Thawne.

Even his infliction when he says certain things like in the Multiplex episode "when people break it's very hard for them to be put back together again" or something of that nature. Almost like he was talking from experience. Eobard Thawne became a very mentally broken man when he went back in time and found out that his idol The Flash was destined to kill him.
