The helmet belonged to Jay Carrick. In the comics, he got the ability to run fast from magic or something. He was the flash in an alternate universe and predates Barry Allen. Eventually, when DC merged their universes, their history joined and Jay became one of that worlds earliest heroes.

This is the time rupture that will begin the ripple that that will lead to Infinite Crisis....this is the trigger.

Thawne body was swept in the wormhole, whichmeans he could still be propelled to the the past and revived or an alternate timeline and revived. It will happen because whenever there's a Flash, there's a Thawne not far behind.

Garrick's helmet means Earth 2 is probably on the other side of that wormhole.

Season 2 is probably going to be about the speedforce and how Barry learns to use it to get home. He'll probably be stuck for a bit.
