I think you could make a solid arguement that musically this is a top 5 album ever to come outta the west. I realize The DOC was fromt Texas but this is a west coast album to me.

It's a southern album because the rapper was southern even if the beats on the album sounded west coast because of Dre producing them. If that's the case then Ice Cube's first album is an east coast album because it was produced by the Bomb Squad.

Yeah I mean honestly I have been listening to rap since I was about 10 or 11, I'm 27 now, and I never listened to this album until about 6 months ago. I feel like any true fan of hip hop needs to have this in their collection, I'm ashamed that I didnt give it a shot earlier. He could flip his style like crazy and was always dope, i can't imagine the reaction to this when it came out in the late 80s.

I was waiting on a bus summer 89 and a benz 190 drove by blasting its funky enough. that beat and son's flow was so crazy i bought the tape the next day. he was prolly the best pure mc dre worked with, he was competing with east coast's best mcs at the time which was unheard of. i dont know about ny but in philly everybody had that tape he was popular. cube had the lyrics, snoop had theflow/ swagger but doc had both.

That is dope, I think a lot of people can't appreciate classic music and write it off as old school because they missed the initial impact that it had. My older brother had been telling me about The D.O.C. for the longest time but I never really listened. Once I popped it in I literally didnt stop listening to it for a month strait.
