This is true. Fake "religious" people do more harm to religion than those who are opposed to it (ACLU, atheists, etc.) could ever dream of.

Would society really be better(or worse) without religion(or belief in a higher being)?

Both, I don't think we could do with or without if that makes sense.

For one, religion promotes a lot of misunderstanding and a lot of bull. We have people who still follow the bible to a T and stone, whip, humiliate an adulteress and a bunch of other shit they do. It's not God's rule, it's inhumane treatment. There is no, "well if they listened, this wouldn't happen". There is bad in that, a murder is a murder. Only a murderer, in my opinion and in many others, only deserves death himself/herself. This is one aspect that makes religion bad. Look at 9/11, religion. Without religion we wouldn't have that and many people would still be alive.

BUT THEN, without religion, could we have order? Do you think religion really started our laws today? If it wasn't for religion, could we have any type of peace? I'm sure, but to what degree? For the millions and millions who have found religion, it has done them some good. It helped a drug user or some type of addict. It helped a murderer, in jail yes, but nonetheless helped them. It helped a gang member find love and understanding. It does promote good as well. Could millions have a peace of mind WITHOUT religion?

I dunno, like I said, I don't think we could do with or without. I guess it just is.

Today, if everyone practiced there religion to the fullest.. The world wold be a better place..no we are the world song!

Problem is the exact opposite was/is/will be happening. Religion is often used as an excuse to subjugate and control and destroy.

I don't where people get this fantasy that organized religion is or should be this wonderful thing when history has shown us repeatedly otherwise. Atrocities committed by people literally following the tenets of their religion to the letter.

It would be worse if it was. However, it would also be worse if there was a completely religious society. The only difference is that one is going to mask their faults behind a deity if something goes wrong.
