But isn't that the stage we are coming out of? I mean its not like one day someone decided 'hey, lets make a religion and follow it!'... we 'grew up' as a species following religion, its been with us since day one so to speak. Maybe there is something after religion, don't really know what though.

religion has been with us since day one, but do we truly follow it, or just pick and choose when we wanna do right...
Thats why i have soooo much respect for muslims.. .. They pray when its time to pray, no matter where they are at.. Close shop... Drop to there knees and worship.. They stick strong to there beliefs (most of them)
you got christians that get mad if the preacher preaches for more than 2 hours cause they wanna go home and watch the game...

Which is why people still have to be stoned, beheaded, imprisoned, etc... for petty mistakes that everyone makes.

You don't need a book to do that. Believing that humanity is your only hope will get you a lot further than having faith in divine intervention.
If an atheist would go stone somebody religious folk would call for his head and say he's the devils child, a heathen, etc... and use it as a stepping stone in labeling all atheists in that manner.

I think religion is a metaphysical allegorical code being understood as literal but someone or some "idea" has to keep these idiots in line. What if greasy ass T-Rock from the block aint have that fake ass diamond cross around his neck and his grandma aint tell him about this so called "hell", niggas would turn to savages. I do agree in some ways, because I've learned a lot of good things from various religions, but that's only maybe because I take what I need and leave the rest and have no convictions about any of them. So in that sense I can see where religion in society is beneficial.

Good, if the fear of hell is the only thing stopping them from doing wrong I have no qualms about them getting loose and killing each other off.
And I still stick by my stance that it would be better. Losing a god and your religion from those I know and personally makes you place more emphasis on helping each other and trying to progress together. I have yet to see someone drop their faith and in exchange become a tyrant.
