I had this my freshman year:



Sony CFD-750. The little speaker at the bottom of each cabinet are actually subwoofers. I heard it at some shop at Galleria in DFW while I was there for xmas in 1990. I was just given a Nissan S12 for xmas but I needed to pay to get a new power steering pump put on it and put a pair of cheap speakers in the doors (couldn't make that drive all the way back to Detroit in silence...). When I got settled back at school, the first day of classes I rolled up to Hudsons, put my store card down and copped the stereo for $300. That lil muhfucka had bass coming out of it that could be heard on my entire floor. LL Cool J's "Boomin System" used to get my RA pissed 'cause it was so fuckin loud and low. All my DJ Magic Mike CD's were ridiculously loud and even better, low as fuck.

Last day of school some niggas broke into my room and stole it. I know for a fact that my suite mates were involved or they did it themselves.

That was back when "MegaBass" was more than just EQ. If your Sony boombox had "MegaBass" on it, there were extremely well engineered subwoofers on it or a well tuned enclosure that provided low end extension.

I wanted a Sony Watchman sooooo fuckin bad until I saw this:

I was already a fan of Clive Sinclair's stuff since I owned a Timex Sinclair 1000 computer and hay my eyes on trying to get a Timex Sinclair 2068. They never brought the TV80 to the US AFAIK and there were only 15,000 of them sold. Supposedly the picture was bigger than a Watchman and the quality was much better, plus the speaker gave better sound.
