LL isn't in my top 10(if I actually really had a list) but I do have a ton of respect for him and what he did for the culture. Radio and mama said knock you out are my favorite albums from him

Here's the chronology of LL's battles;

1. 1985. LL records "I Can't Live Without My Radio" which is on the Krush Groove Soundtrack and appeared on his first album. Steady B responds with "I'll Take Your Radio". But LL never responded back to Steady B.

2. 1985/86. LL makes "Dear Yvette" on his first album. Yvette Money responded with "E-Vette’s Revenge". Tic and Toc also responded with "Hey Jay (Is It True What They Say)". LL didn't respond to either song.

3. 1985/86. Marley Marl releases the classic "Marley Scratch" feat MC Shan. Later that year LL Cool J releases the Original Version of "Rock the Bells" which has a very similar beat to "Marley Scratch". In the summer of 86 MC Shan released "Beat Biter" accusing of LL Cool J of stealing his beat. LL responded with a subliminal shot on his second album called "The Breakthrough" but didn't mention MC Shan by name.

4. 1987. Kool Moe Dee releases "How Do Ya Like Me Now" which throws a subliminal at LL. LL responds with Jack the Ripper.

5. 1988. Ice T disses LL Cool J on "I'm Your Pusher".

6. 1988. MC Hammer throws a subliminal at LL on "Let's Get it Started"

7. 1988. Kool Moe Dee responds to "Jack the Ripper" with "Lets Go" thus escalating the battle.

8. 1990. LL responds to Kool Moe Dee, MC Hammer and Ice T all in one track called "To the Break of Dawn"

8. 1997/98. Canibus disses LL Cool J with "2nd Round KO". LL responds with The Ripper Strikes Back which mentions WyCleff.

9. 1998. WyCleff responds to the "Ripper Strikes Back" with "What's Clef Got to Do With It". LL Responds to WyCleff with "Rasta Imposter"

10. 1999. LL makes a second diss to Canibus called "Back Where I Belong" feat Ja Rule.

11. 1999/2000. Canibus responds with "Rip the Jacker" which was self ether and effectively ended his own career.

In the other thread "Why is LL never mentioned in Top/DOA Lists" people seem to think that LL isn't lyrical or can't hold his own on the mic. Nonsense. LL is battle tested. He should be in everybody's top 10 just by his battle record alone.

he didnt respond or name names to 50% of these . and most of hip hop agrees that lyrically canibus murked cool j.

how does this help his battle record?

He was getting dissed from all angles. He was the alpha male and everybody thought that they had to beat LL to get to the top. It would have been impractical and ill advised to respond to everybody who dissed him, especially since he was on Def Jam and had videos playing on MTV while the people dissing him were on independent labels and at best getting on late night college radio.

LL handled his business perfectly. There's an expression that you have to choose your battles wisely.
