Yup, that is to be expected. Most that are not from the islands and come to visit will most likely get sick at some point. There is a drink called Bomba which fixes any stomach problems you may have. It is amazing and works almost immediately.
Glad you enjoyed yourself. Try hitting up Punta Cana next time. Puerta Plata is less expensive but their beaches cannot compare to those in Punta Cana. Puerta Plata is not really white sand, Punta Cana is, so beautiful. The nightlife is cool since I know you like to get your party on. You know the discos there go til 5,6am if not later and the bars are ALWAYS opened. Not all, but many. Then you have the Car Wash' which are active every night but Sundays are the day of the Father aka. Dia de la Fiesta, LOL.

No I didn't get sick from the water, I had bronchitis and a sinus infection! It started before I left and become unbareable while I was there :'( the hospital experience was a nightmare tho lol, they almost killed me! Lol

I would love to try punta Cana but I don't like staying in tourist areas or resort when I travel honestly but we will see. Puerto plata was nice, I didn't care for the beach too much but the house I stayed at (my friends house) had a pool
so that's what I pretty much did the whole time lol. I'll definitely be back soon tho!

I have had a sinus infection before so I know how you felt. The excruciating headache that came along with it was the worst. It lasted for days, days without any relief that nothing could cure.

I personally do NOT like Punta Cana. No one is actually from Punta Cana, it is just a tourist area which is why so many folks come from all over DR to work there, because it is a tourist area. Punta Cana is only good for it's beaches, otherwise I wouldn't have suggested visiting, solely for it's beaches but there are many other beaches which are just as beautiful. San Pedro is the best IMO and I know you'd find the people here beautiful as they are.
As for Punta Cana, it is very very expensive y mucho mucho tigeres out there even more so because that is where people go to vacation.

I say that those who come to DR and stay in resorts can't really say they have ever been to DR. they have been to a resort, they havent experienced the reality which is DR. Punta Cana is a fantasy, it isn't DR and the resorts are just paradise. DR is far much more than being on a beach sippin pina coladas being waited on night and day. That's nice for some but I personally can't even live like that, it becomes uncomfortable and boring, out of my comfort zone to be honest.

Yeah I don't like staying in a resort anywhere tho. When I stayed at one in Jamaica I vowed I'd never do it again. I was lucky enough to have a real house in a real neighborhood to stay in, in Puerto Plata, and I saw the real DR and its barrios. So I can truly say how much I love the country and its people, and especially the FOOD! LMAO! (todas las mananas para desayuno me comia mangu y salami con huevos, despues de mi cafe con leche de Santo Domingo, mmm mmmmm! LMAO! Lo extrano!) But it is safer for tourists to stay in the resort areas and thankfully I have people out there and speak Spanish so I am in better position to do/go what/where I want. But I really want to go to Higuey where you live one day, everyone talks about it! I am already so excited to return to DR
