i was just reading last week an article on the most clutch players in baseball

MLB Metrics 101: The Most Clutch Players of Baseball

Pujols #1 in 2017

The 37-year-old has always been a terrific clutch hitter, however, and that skill remains intact in 2017. He's come to the plate in high-leverage situations 100 times and produced a .900 OPS and 47 RBI, the most of any player.

i guess this explains how he has 83 rbis with that average

pujols been having a ‘colorado’ like split the last several years brining in runs with such a bad batting average

Yesterday the cubs announcers said joe maddon had to talk to quintana about confidence,THEN he went out loaded the bases hit batters and almost had another disastrous 1st inning.

this can't be life.

Quintana seems like a nice dude, but I think he's mentally weak. The trade rumors had him getting rocked and pressure makes him crumble.

I really, really hope he settles in after this season.Rather have acquired that unstable lunatic sale

The Chicago Cubs have become the first team in Major League history to have five players record at least 20 home runs in their age-25 season or younger.

Ian Happ, 23, homered against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday to join Javier Baez (age 24), Kyle Schwarber (24), Willson Contreras (25) and Kris Bryant (25) in the club.

:)

verlander gone. im sad man. he was the homegrown prospect that started the tigers turnaround. sucks we could never get the bullpen situated or we would have a ring

It woulda been nice to add a vet like verlander but I'm glad the cubs didn't.Rather use that dough elsewhere

cubs starting pitching has been good the 2nd half, wasn't a need anyway

i think the cubs were willing to take the contract but didnt want to give up any real prospects

the tigers wanted prospects AND money off the books

the astros were willing to do that

i didnt think anyone would but with mccullers out and keuchel sucking again the astros were looking at yet another world series opportunity slipping away

That's exactly what happened.Verlander nixed the trade initially cuz he was waiting for the cubs

Is that whitesoxdave dude credible? Cuz he sayin russell tore his plantar facistis and strained another part of his foot I never even heard of.Regardless russell out another 3 weeks minimum.I think he might be out for the season

for all the money that old man detroit has spent on that team youd think they would have figured out that a bullpen is pretty important

ever since valverde season where he didnt blow a save seems like the tigers have struggled to hold late leads

detroit now appears to be going back to the dark ages of the early 2000s with these moves

it needed to happen though

hes had some clubhouse fight scoops, trade scoops and when people are getting called up scoops before anyone else

but its all been white sox related though

thatd be a tough loss

russell is better than baez at ss

just not as flashy

but like you said baez plays better when he plays every day

he even alluded to that yesterday

The electric infielder has delivered an .855 OPS since Russell went down. His defense was a bit sloppy initially, but he eventually found his rhythm. Báez hadn’t been at the position on an everyday basis in a couple years, but now he’s seemingly making a brilliant defensive play on a daily basis while avoiding any mistakes on the easy plays.

It's easy to brush off Russell's absence by pointing to his meager 83 wRC+ and his inconsistencies with throwing on defense. But even after missing nearly the entire month of August he's rated as the second-best defensive shortstop in the game with 14 defensive runs saved (DRS) and he seemed to be finding a rhythm at the plate, posting a 125 wRC+ in 18 games after the break.

Yea he is.Baez been great tho but the russell & baez ss/2b combo is sick which is why I was hoping he could be ready by october.

Arrieta been pitching like '15 jake in the 2nd half opp .169 ba & has the lowest era in mlb(contract year push) which is another reason why I don't mind not acquiring verlander.Lester returns tomorrow, contreras been doing drills and bullpen sessions so he should be back in about 2 weeks.Avila and rivera been real solid in the meantime.I wanna see how dillon maples does,he been killing in the minors his slider nasty he could be a weapon out the bullpen if he can do it at the big league level and most importantly push grimm or rondon out the bullpen I don't trust either.

that shit baez did the other day basically stealing home was crazy

word the concern of SP was being overstated

cubs SP ages in 2018

hendricks 28

quintana 29

lester 34

montgomery 28 (i like him)

and 3 of those are under extremely cheap cost control through 2020

signing 32 year old arrieta to a shorter/high price contract is something i would really try to do but id be shocked if boras accepts a deal like that before jake hits the open market

hes going to want a bidding war like he had with sherzer
