Stanton wants to go to the dodgers. He's waiting to see if they jump in but they're over the tax and have too many outfielders

That's his preference tho

i gotta think getting to work on an mlb clubs otani proposal is one of the most interesting things you could do in baseball probably ever — id love to read them all once theyre done — you know some clubs will do excellent work and others will be genuinely incompetent — i think teams that are good at self evaluation and use honest processes for that will be most prepared

e.g rick hahn

i am dying to know how the white sox presented their evaluations of otani

did they share honest concerns or blow smoke

hopefully they didnt bullshit him because otani sounds like a stand up guy

https://www.fanragsports.com/heyman-agents-advised-ohtani-to-consider-yankees/amp/

Before two-way Japanese star Shohei Ohtani made his choice not to include the Yankees as a finalist in the derby for the two-way star, Ohtani’s representatives at CAA made pleas to at least give them a longer look, people familiar with the situation said.

However, Ohtani, a small-town guy who’s played for Nippon in Sapporo and obviously isn’t about the money, was having none of it.

damn

makes it even more amazing that otani basically told the yankees to get the fuck out of his face in the japanese super polite and professional kind of way

(he reportedly told them he thought they presented really well but they had little to no chance from the start)

seems like it was the same thing he told toronto

too big

too much media

word is a strong japanese diaspora is an element to otani decision not to be underestimated — which is why seattle is feeling good about their chances — they have like one of the highest japanese populations in the united states while san diego is not too far off + i believe otani has trained at the padres facilities in prior years so he has a connection there and supposedly hideo nomo son is his translator and his father hideo works for the padres and that his former trainer is head of padres medical staff AND his agent is from the area

cubs seem really out of place there

at least geographically

wonder whats keeping them in the mix

its a good look though

this is exactly why I think the cubs are a long shot but baseball wise they are arguably the best fit

The Cubs’ initial sales pitch included a multi-paged booklet with illustrations and projections of how Ohtani could easily mesh with a young group that won the 2016 World Series and lost in the National League Championship Series this past season, sources said. It explained how the Cubs already have a core of premium talent under contract control for years to come in the form of Jon Lester, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Addison Russell, Kyle Hendricks, Willson Contreras and Jose Quintana. The Cubs’ state-of-the-art spring training facility and renovated Wrigley Field were also highlighted in the presentation.

add the fact how maddon manages using players in multiple positions

Worst thing would be otani to go seattle or san diego and be on teams that go 78-84.

Padres have a nice farm but they still play in the same division as the d backs, giants, dodgers and rockies.

another thing is the mariners said they'd move nelson cruz to the of to accommodate otani as dh. Cruz is a great dh but suspect outfielder what if it's june/july and otani struggling as a hitter? then what?

yeah i dont know why he want to go to seattle (outside of a lot of japanese people living there)

where theyve got an aging

cano

cruz

felix

and their only solid prospect has a fucked up knee

cubs can offer otani world class ST and clubhouse facilities

superb leadership in FO

chance to play meaningful games immediately and more

but this guy is showing himself to be something different

whether it be becuase hes scared or just that noble

i dont know
