It is not an outing to remember. Giolito allows two home runs and a double to the first three batters for Seattle's Double-A Arkansas affiliate, and things don't improve much over the next few innings. His 93-94 mph fastball velocity is serviceable, but he has trouble commanding the pitch and routinely falls behind hitters. And for each breaking ball that bends with breathtaking authority over the heart of the plate, he squeezes two or three that bounce in the dirt.

Several talent evaluators in attendance take notes. An American League scout observes that Giolito needs to add more deception to his delivery. And another scout, who concedes that spring training is a "terrible time" to judge players, says the outing isn't unlike what Giolito has displayed throughout the spring.

"Even when he's getting outs and navigating through B-level lineups, he's having to trick hitters and pitch backwards," the scout said. "He looks more like the crafty right-handed veteran than the young guy with the tools we've all heard about -- the big fastball and big breaking ball. I haven't seen much of that. It's been very vanilla."

this will be a common refrain with this guy for the next 4 years

Big as an ox yet stays injured.Groin,Oblique,Stress fracture,Hamstrings.Soler stay wit tissue injuries that's too bad

Season starts tomorrow night Cubs at Cards =)

If they stay healthy cubs should win the central again doubt it will be by as many games as last season. After that don't know

but a schwarber, bryant, rizzo, zobrist, contreras meat of the order is gonna be a problem.Hopefully heyward bounces back. The defense should be on point with almora, baez, contreras up the middle and could be even better than last season.

I been watching more baseball the last 2 years. Gonna try to catch more games this year.

Wouldnt say im a fan of any team but I do have a soft spot for both ny teams.

Im a casual fan trying to really follow more baseball and understanding the strategies more so ima be checking out this thread.

Very excited for baseball coming back! Time for my Indians to show up and show the fuck out this season and win the World Series.

The Indians blew a 3-1 lead in the World Series.

Stros got the offense but rotation still the biggesr question mark. Think lunhow gon wait to see how they bounce back from last year before finally making a move for quintana.

luis robert

cuba top prospect

ran the 60 in 6.2 seconds

thats crazy

bo jackson and ichiro in their prime type speed is 6.1

the white sox are one of the primary teams linked

im hoping jerry lets hahn get to the smelly money at the back of the safe

robert would be massive addition

adds another top 50-75 type that could easily be top 5 in baseball this time next year

@ckfree did you peep this espn article on moncada? It's long af on some grantland tip but it's a good read
https://twitter.com/SportsFunhouse/status/845078715960889344

yeah that was a very interesting article

hopefully a friend like abreu or someone will take him under their wing and teach him more about taking care of money matters and that there is more to life than fast cars and twinkies so he can concentrate on baseball because the white sox have a lot of pitchers and one getting hurt or failing hurts but moncada looking like maybe boston was wise to dump him when they did could really set this whole rebuild thing back on the order of years -- on most prospects list after moncada at number one the next five are all pitchers

theres just no wiggle room around him

the white sox need moncada to work
