I think your sources might be outdated b

Amazon just turned a profit for the eighth straight quarter

People are buying into the future. They believe at some point being that his company is the market leader they are going to make a shit load of money if you invest in him now. Issue is I don't see gas powered cars going anywhere any time soon. And competitors are going to close the gap.. Markets have a way of correcting themselves so if he doesn't start showing some results soon they'll cut the lights out on his future.

The Palo Alto, California-based company

Well there you go....

The quarter is over. Silicon Valley companies do this every year. Many companies are going through their annual layoff phase. There’s a certain quota % of employees that have to get less than stellar reviews to make them elidgeable to get laid off. Its fucked up but the norm. It’s usually (but not always) contractors that get laid off.

Message: You’re ultimate loyalty is with YOU, not a company.

Tesla is under pressure to deliver its Model 3 sedan to a waiting list of more than 450,000 customers.

There will likely be a realignment to focus more resources to work on the Model 3.

Despite the mass firings, Tesla is still looking to hire hundreds more workers.

EXACTLY.

A lot of the times, they lay off, the stocks go back up, and they rehire any former full time employees first who haven’t moved on. The really good performers that get laid off really dont get laid off, they typically get shifted to other good performing business units/departments (the company doesn’t want to lose them)....poor performing business units lay off a lot, good performing business units hire a few....during the layoffs...but it’s a net employee lost to the company in order to tell investors “we fucked up and over estimated profits but now we’re readjusting so keep giving me money see we good now”.

They were, but they aren't now.

They've been profitable for a little over a year now.

Granted, that's not long considering how long the company's been in business.........however, since they are actually turning a profit, they're not in the same position as Tesla anymore.

Everyone is speculating on the stuck in the future that's why. SMH

i mean... if i had 33k employees i could probably find a couple hundred slackers to replace after reviews. i'm not saying that's what happened but a lot of people are just skating by in most companies.

That performance rating system is a corrupt system but something i just have to deal with in corporate America. When you're a manager they tell you, there has to be some poor performers, everyone cannot get top ratings. And u have to equally distribute ratings.

Tesla was recruiting me for design engineering their "GigaFactory"

but I wasn't trying to relocate to Reno. Imagine moving to Reno, then getting cut by this damn layoff.

thing is....the layoff people then they will begin to rehire.

is it about paycuts?

you can pay new hires cheaper labor?

or is it about the money saved making the bottom line look good then you rehire?

what jeff is doing with amazon is nothing new.

hes putting money back into the company an buying up shit....hes expansionistic.

an along with buying up shit and diversifying .....he will get a larger market share ..almost to monopoly...then watch prices rise.

right now...he buys shit and lowers the price and ships it to you....that will take out the competition.

that doesnt make him a genius. his investors believe in him and keep believing in him.

he promises the future will be profitable after the expansion slows.

your local drug dealer would do the same thing.

Typically, these types of companies go through re-alignments.

They need to throw more manpower behind the Model 3 sedan.....and they already have a waiting list.

Thus, lower performing departments or unneeded workers (e.g., sales) get the bulk of the layoffs. A few workers from higher performing departments get laid off. The best of those laid off will likely get rehired on the Model 3 teams department.

is it about the money saved making the bottom line look good then you rehire?

More than likely, yes.
